Georgetown Township, home to Jenison, sits about 13 miles southwest of our Grand Rapids office on Kraft Ave SE, roughly a 20-minute drive. That keeps this large Ottawa County township well within our range, and the reach helps at every step. We can get out for a free estimate quickly, bring trucks and material without a long haul, and come back easily for a follow-up or warranty visit. When a storm rolls through, that closeness also means a fast response rather than a long wait. For one of the largest townships in the state, that kind of local coverage makes a real difference.
Georgetown Township grew from a lumber settlement founded in 1834 along the Grand River into one of the most populous townships in the state. Established in 1840 and chartered in 1965, it's now home to more than 54,000 residents, about half of them in the community of Jenison. It has become a sought-after bedroom community, with highly rated schools, strong household incomes, and steady, family-driven growth.
That growth is written into the rooftops. The township is filled with single-family subdivisions built from the 1960s through the 2000s and beyond, with newer construction still filling in. Because those neighborhoods went up in tight windows, their roofs age on a shared clock, which means whole streets tend to reach the end of a roof's life around the same time. A roofer here works mostly on suburban family homes, from the earlier subdivisions to the newest builds. With strong schools and steady demand, homes here tend to hold their value, which makes a well-kept roof worth the investment.
West Michigan weather gives every roof here a full four-season workout. Winter snow load and the freeze-thaw cycle lift shingles and crack flashing, and on older or under-insulated homes they build ice dams along the eaves. Spring and summer bring the straight-line wind and occasional hail that cross the region most years. Over time, that steady cycle wears out even a well-built roof.
On the township's many subdivision homes, the trouble usually starts with builder-grade shingles losing granules, flashing failing around chimneys and vents, and attic ventilation that was never quite balanced from the start. A re-roof is the moment to correct all three. Sound flashing, fresh underlayment, and balanced ventilation, along with gutters sized to move the water away, are what keep a Georgetown Township roof sound through the seasons. On the newer subdivision homes in particular, a re-roof is a chance to fix ventilation shortcuts left from a fast original build, a common issue in neighborhoods that went up quickly.
Because we work this side of Ottawa County constantly, the roofs we install across Georgetown Township and Jenison are ones we pass again and again, and our reputation rides on how they hold up. We treat every project like the neighbors will be looking at it for years, because in a community this connected, they will. We also install gutters and gutter guards along with a new roof, which matters on the flatter, low-lying stretches of the township. Standing behind the work is how a roofer keeps earning it.

Noticeable storm damage
Thinking about installing a brand-new roof or adding one to an existing structure?
Usually done during new construction or major home additions

Both roof installation and roof replacement provide you with a new roof, but the process, cost, and considerations are very different.
Roof Installation
Best suited for new construction or major renovations
Allows more flexibility in design and material choices
No old roofing to remove, making it a cleaner and simpler process
Roof Replacement
Involves removing and replacing an existing roof
May require structural reinforcements or code updates
Can improve energy efficiency and increase your home’s value
Bottom Line: If you’re building a new home or adding on to your existing one, roof installation is the right choice. If your current roof is too old or damaged to repair, a replacement is the smarter investment for long-term protection and performance.

Roofing Material Choices
Asphalt shingles – The most popular and cost-effective choice.
Slate or tile – Higher priced but built to last for decades.
Understanding these cost differences helps homeowners pick the material that best fits their budget.
Roof Size
Larger roofs need more materials, which naturally drives up the price.
Extra shingles, underlayment, and other components all add to the total cost.
Roof Complexity
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or intricate designs take more time and expertise to complete.
The added complexity increases both labor and material expenses.
In Michigan, the changing seasons have a big influence on roofing projects and overall costs. Winter often brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures that can make roofing unsafe—or in some cases, impossible. During these months, contractor availability is limited, and prices are usually higher.
Spring and fall are generally the best times for roofing. With mild weather and fewer chances of heavy rain, projects can be completed more efficiently, often at lower costs, and with more contractors available.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, homeowners can save money and make sure their roofing projects are completed smoothly and on schedule.
Choosing the right roofing service—whether you need a brand-new roof or a replacement—brings long-term value you can count on. It helps you save money over time and gives you peace of mind knowing your home is well protected. Fast, professional repairs also keep small problems from turning into costly issues that might eventually require a full replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always more affordable than replacing the entire roof.
A trusted roofing service makes sure your roof does its job—protecting your home from water damage, mold, and other expensive problems caused by a failing roof. DIY fixes might sound tempting, but relying on an experienced roofing contractor is the smarter move for expert advice and reliable results.
In the end, taking care of your roof is really about safeguarding your home’s value and long-term safety. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and professional recommendations.

It can. A good part of a roof’s effect on energy use comes from attic ventilation and insulation working with the roofing system. When we replace a roof in Georgetown Township we balance intake and exhaust ventilation and can address ice-and-water protection and insulation gaps, which helps your attic stay drier and your home hold temperature better through the seasons.
