Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Our Rochester office at 425 Walnut Boulevard is about 16 miles from Clarkston, roughly a 25-minute drive west into northern Oakland County. We cover this part of the region regularly, so the village and the neighborhoods of Independence Township around it are well within the ground our crews work.
That regular presence is a real benefit to you. We come out for free estimates, our crews arrive when we say they will, and follow-up on warranty or touch-up work is easy to arrange. Whether your home is on a historic downtown street or out on a wooded lot near Deer Lake, we're close enough to be there when you need us. Estimates, installs, and follow-up all stay easy at that distance.
Clarkston is one of the most charming small communities in Oakland County. Founded around 1830 and platted in 1840, its downtown is a designated historic district, a picturesque main street of preserved 19th-century buildings and homes that give the village what locals call a timeless elegance. When the railroad arrived in 1851, Detroiters discovered its lakes and woodlands, and the resort era left its mark on the homes here.
The surrounding Independence Township tells a broader story. Its housing runs from pre-war homes with big porches to postwar ranches, colonials from the 1980s and 1990s, and newer executive homes on wooded acreage, many near the lakes and Pine Knob. Historic village home or lakeside estate, each asks something different of a roof. Downtown streets sit close to Deer Lake and Depot Park, so many homes here combine historic character with the moisture and shade of a lakeside setting.
On the historic homes, leaks start at worn flashing around steep valleys, dormers, and chimneys, often over older decking that hides layered roofing, and matching the shingle profile to the home's era keeps the character the village works to protect. The wooded, lake-dotted lots keep shaded slopes damp for moss, drop limbs in storms, and pack leaves into valleys, while the lakefront homes take extra wind and moisture off the water. Freeze-thaw cycles drive ice dams along the eaves on all of them.
We match the work to the home. That means an honest tear-off and decking inspection when it's warranted, shingle profiles that suit an older home's character, wind-rated shingles near the water, strong ventilation, and ice-and-water shield along the vulnerable edges. From a historic downtown cottage to a wooded executive home, we detail it to last. We're also glad to choose colors and profiles that suit the historic district, so a new roof strengthens the village's character rather than standing out on the street.
We've roofed northern Oakland County since 1995, and our crews are through the Clarkston area regularly. In a community this proud of its historic character, quality is noticed, and that keeps our work honest. It's the same standard behind more than 6,200 Michigan roofs, quick repair or full replacement alike. Being up this way often also means we can respond quickly when a storm off the lakes leaves you with a leak.

While both roof installation and roof replacement result in a new roof, they differ in purpose, process, and overall cost.
Roof Installation:
Roof Replacement:
Bottom Line:
If you’re building a new home or expanding, go with installation. If your existing roof is damaged or past its prime, replacement offers stronger protection and long-term peace of mind.
The price of a roof installation or repair isn’t one-size-fits-all—it depends on a few important factors. The type of roofing material you choose, how complicated the job is, and how easy it is to access your roof all affect the final cost. Asphalt shingles are usually the most affordable, while higher-end options like slate or metal can raise the price.
If your roof is steep or has a complex design, it might require special tools and a more experienced crew, which adds to labor costs. Understanding these details helps you make smart, budget-friendly decisions that line up with your goals and needs.
Roofing Material Choices:
Asphalt shingles: A widely used, budget-friendly option that’s easy to install and performs well for most homes.
Slate or tile: A premium material with a higher upfront cost, but it’s built to last and offers outstanding durability.
Knowing the cost differences between materials helps you strike the right balance between your budget and long-term value.
Roof Size:
Bigger roofs require more materials—extra shingles, underlayment, and components—which increases the overall cost.
Roof Complexity:
Steep slopes, complex angles, dormers, or intricate layouts demand more time, skill, and specialized tools.
This added complexity leads to higher labor and material costs.
In Clarkston, the seasons play a big role in how roofing projects are planned and priced. Winter often means snow, ice, and freezing temps—conditions that slow things down and make the work more hazardous. Fewer available crews and added safety concerns usually lead to higher costs during this time.
Spring and fall are your best bet. With mild temperatures and fewer weather disruptions, jobs tend to run smoother and safer. Plus, more contractors are available, which can mean better pricing and flexibility.
Planning your roofing project around the seasons can help you avoid delays, cut costs, and ensure the job gets done right the first time.
Choosing the right roofing service—whether it’s a quick repair or a full replacement—can make a big difference for your home and your wallet. Tackling small problems early helps prevent costly damage down the road. While repair costs vary, they’re almost always cheaper than replacing the entire roof.
Professional service ensures your roof continues to do its job—keeping water out, stopping mold growth, and protecting your home from wear and tear. DIY fixes might seem easy, but having a pro handle the work means it gets done right—and safely—the first time.
Your roof is a key part of your home’s structure and value. Not sure what shape it’s in? Contact Schoenherr Roofing for a free inspection and expert guidance you can trust.
Our Rochester office at 425 Walnut Boulevard is about 16 miles from Clarkston, roughly a 25-minute drive west into northern Oakland County. You can reach us at (248) 720-5847. We cover this part of the region regularly, so the village and the Independence Township neighborhoods around it are well within the ground our crews work.
Yes. Clarkston’s downtown is a designated historic district of preserved 19th-century homes with steep, detailed rooflines. We choose shingle profiles and colors that suit the home’s era, detail the valleys, dormers, and flashing carefully, and inspect the older decking honestly during tear-off so the roof protects the home and keeps the character the village works to preserve.
Yes. Independence Township around Clarkston has many larger homes on wooded, sometimes lakeside acreage, with cut-up rooflines that carry multiple gables, dormers, and valleys. We’re equipped for that work and detail every transition correctly, since a roof with that much going on only stays watertight when the flashing and layout are right.
Yes. Homes on and near the lakes around Clarkston take extra wind and moisture off the open water, which wears shingles and pushes rain under flashing. We build these roofs with wind-rated shingles, sealed flashing, and ice-and-water shield along the vulnerable edges so the lakefront exposure doesn’t shorten the roof’s life.
The trees on Clarkston’s wooded and lakeside lots shade the north slopes and keep them damp enough for moss, and they drop limbs and leaves into the valleys and gutters. We clean and treat the growth, keep the drainage clear, and can fit algae-resistant shingles at replacement so the shaded slopes stay cleaner longer.
Yes. We offer a free, no-obligation inspection and estimate for Clarkston and Independence Township homeowners, whether the home is a historic downtown house or a wooded executive home. We’ll assess the full roof, explain honestly what we find, and lay out your options before you commit to anything.

Our experience with Schoenherr Roofing has been very pleasant. Our sales consultant, Nate and project manager, Josh H. were both professional and personable. We were very impressed with the excellent communication by Josh before, during, and after our project. The cleanup the roofing crew did was also outstanding. We love our new roof!Posted on Google![]()

Josh H. one of the guys that works there happens to live down the street from my mother and noticed she had a few missing shingles. During the roof inspection he temporarily patched it in to give her a few extra months until she can afford it. Absolutely wonderful guy and didn’t ask for a dime, just wanted to save her from extra damages.Posted on Google![]()

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in their services! They had great communication skills. They kept us updated with scheduling and progress pictures of what was completed. One of the days we were surprised with a terrible storm that popped up in the middle of the tear off/install. Even with the 50+ mph winds and extreme rain the guys successfully tarped off our house with no leaks! Also, they're very reasonably priced and went to great lengths to protect our landscape. Thanks for a great experience!Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
