Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Rockford sits about 12 miles north of our Grand Rapids office on Kraft Ave SE, roughly a 20-minute drive up US-131. That keeps this Kent County city and the country around it well within our range, and the short trip helps at every step. We can get out for a free estimate quickly, bring trucks and material without a long haul, and come back easily for a follow-up or warranty visit. When a storm rolls through, that closeness also means a fast response rather than a long wait. For a growing community this close to home, that quick coverage is a real convenience.
Rockford grew up on the Rogue River. Settled in 1842 and known first as Laphamville, it took the name Rockford in 1865, incorporated as a village in 1866, and became a city in 1935. Lumber built it early on, then a shoe company and tannery that grew into Wolverine Worldwide, still the area's best-known employer. The Rockford Dam and the walkable historic downtown along the river remain the heart of the city.
That history left Rockford with a wide range of homes, and the range keeps widening. Older homes near the historic downtown sit alongside riverfront and wooded properties, lake homes on nearby Bostwick, Silver, and Bella Vista lakes, and the newer subdivisions rapidly filling in the surrounding countryside as Kent County's demand for housing climbs. A roofer here has to be ready for a century-old downtown home and a brand-new subdivision roof alike. That variety is part of what keeps the work interesting here, since no two Rockford streets are quite alike on the roof.
West Michigan winters bring real snow load and the freeze-thaw cycle that lifts shingles and cracks flashing, and on older or under-insulated homes that cycle builds ice dams along the eaves. Spring and summer add the straight-line wind and occasional hail that cross the region most years. It's a steady, four-season workout for any roof in the area.
The different kinds of homes here bring different jobs. Older downtown homes tend to show aging flashing, worn or layered shingles, and dated decking underneath, while riverfront and wooded lots add moisture and shade that grow moss and drop debris into valleys. The newer subdivision roofs are mostly a matter of builder-grade shingles reaching the twenty-year mark together. Sound flashing, fresh underlayment, and balanced attic ventilation carry all of them through the seasons, whatever the setting. On the lake homes around Bostwick and Silver especially, we pay extra attention to the water-facing edges and to ice-and-water protection at the eaves, since a leak on a lakefront roof shows up on a ceiling fast.
Because Rockford is close and we work the area constantly, the roofs we install here are ones we drive past again and again, and our reputation rides on how they hold up. We treat every project like the neighbors will be looking at it for years, because in a tight-knit, growing community like this one, they will. Standing behind the work is how a roofer keeps earning it.
Homeowners often ask when they should start thinking about a new roof. A few key signs include:
Shingles that are curled, cracked, crumbling, or missing
Water stains appearing on ceilings or walls inside the home
Moss, mold, or algae growing on the roof
A roof that’s more than 20 years old
Significant storm damage
Thinking about starting fresh or adding a roof to an existing structure?
Typically done during new construction or major home additions
Ensures complete protection from the elements
Provides a durable, professionally installed roofing system built to last

This service becomes necessary when your roofing system can’t be repaired anymore or has reached the end of its lifespan. Signs that it may be time for a roof replacement include:
Aging Roof: Roofs more than 20 years old often need replacement due to natural wear and material deterioration.
Visible Damage: Significant problems such as missing shingles, major leaks, or structural sagging.
Frequent Repairs: If you’re constantly addressing issues, a full replacement is usually the more cost-effective choice.

Both roof installation and roof replacement provide you with a new roof, but the process, cost, and considerations are quite different.
Roof Installation:
Best for new construction or major renovations
Gives more flexibility in design and material choices
No old roofing to remove, making it a cleaner, simpler process
Roof Replacement:
Involves removing and replacing the existing roof
May require structural upgrades or bringing the home up to code
Can improve energy efficiency and boost property value
Bottom Line: If you’re building a new home or adding an addition, installation is the right choice. If your existing roof is too old or badly damaged, replacement is the smarter investment for long-term protection and performance.
The cost of roof installation or repair is influenced by several key factors, including the type of roofing material, the complexity of the project, and how easy the roof is to access. For example, asphalt shingles are typically more affordable than slate or metal roofing, which directly impacts the overall price.
Roofs with steep slopes or intricate designs often require specialized tools and added expertise, which can increase labor costs. By keeping these factors in mind, homeowners can make informed decisions that fit both their budget and long-term goals.
Roofing Material Choices:
Asphalt shingles – Affordable and widely used
Slate or tile – Higher cost but extremely durable
Knowing these price differences helps homeowners select the option that best fits their budget.
Roof Size:
Larger roofs need more materials, which raises the overall cost
Extra shingles, underlayment, and components all add to expenses
Roof Complexity:
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or detailed designs require more time and skilled labor
Greater complexity increases both material and labor costs
In Michigan, seasonal changes play a major role in roofing projects and their costs. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures that can make roofing unsafe—or sometimes impossible. During this time, contractors are harder to schedule, and prices are often higher.
Spring and fall are usually the best seasons for roofing. With mild weather and less rain, projects can be completed more efficiently, often at lower costs, and with more contractors available.
By considering these seasonal factors, homeowners can better plan their roofing projects, save money, and ensure the work is completed smoothly and on time.
Choosing the right service for your roof, whether it’s a new installation or replacement, offers numerous benefits. It can save you money in the long run and provide peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from becoming major problems that require costly replacements. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they are generally more affordable than full replacements.
Selecting the right service ensures your roof effectively protects your home, preventing water damage, mold growth, and other issues caused by a damaged roof. Although DIY repairs may seem tempting, it’s crucial to consult a professional roofing contractor for trustworthy advice and quality service.
Remember, investing in your roof is also an investment in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Concerned about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert recommendations.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office at 2828 Kraft Ave SE is only about 12 miles south of Rockford, roughly a 20-minute drive up US-131, so we serve the city and the surrounding area regularly. You can reach the office at (616) 421-9687. That short distance keeps estimates, installations, and follow-up visits quick and convenient.
Yes. The area around Rockford is one of the faster-growing in Kent County, and we work on its new subdivisions and newer homes regularly. Many builder-grade roofs from earlier subdivision waves are now reaching the age where they wear out, and we handle those re-roofs as readily as new-construction work.
They can bring extra shade and moisture. Homes along the Rogue River and on the wooded lots common around Rockford let moss and algae take hold on north-facing slopes and collect leaves and limbs in valleys and gutters. We keep valleys detailed correctly, recommend algae-resistant shingles where it helps, and make sure the roof can shed water and debris cleanly.
Yes. Rockford’s historic downtown and older neighborhoods have homes with steeper, more detailed roofs that have often been reshingled more than once. We work on those older homes, matching the roof to the house while bringing the underlayment, flashing, and ventilation up to current standards and inspecting the decking underneath before we install.
Yes. Rockford sits near several popular lakes, including Bostwick, Silver, and Bella Vista, and we roof lake homes regularly. Homes on the water take extra wind and moisture, so we focus on the wind-facing edges, heavy ice-and-water protection at the eaves, and ventilation that lets a lakeside roof dry out between weather.
West Michigan winters bring real snow load to Rockford, and the repeated freeze-thaw cycle works meltwater under shingles and into flashing. On older or under-insulated homes it also builds ice dams at the eaves, where trapped water backs up beneath the shingles. Proper attic ventilation, ice-and-water underlayment, and sound flashing are what keep that winter weather from finding its way inside.

Our experience with Schoenherr Roofing has been very pleasant. Our sales consultant, Nate and project manager, Josh H. were both professional and personable. We were very impressed with the excellent communication by Josh before, during, and after our project. The cleanup the roofing crew did was also outstanding. Josh H. one of the guys that works there happens to live down the street from my mother and noticed she had a few missing shingles. During the roof inspection he temporarily patched it in to give her a few extra months until she can afford it. Absolutely wonderful guy and didn’t ask for a dime, just wanted to save her from extra damages.Posted on Google![]()

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in their services! They had great communication skills. They kept us updated with scheduling and progress pictures of what was completed. One of the days we were surprised with a terrible storm that popped up in the middle of the tear off/install. Even with the 50+ mph winds and extreme rain the guys successfully tarped off our house with no leaks! Also, they're very reasonably priced and went to great lengths to protect our landscape. Thanks for a great experience!Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
