Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Fruitport sits about 35 miles west of our Grand Rapids office on Kraft Ave SE, roughly a 45-minute drive out I-96 toward the lakeshore. That keeps this Muskegon County village and the country around it within our range. We can get out for a free estimate, bring trucks and material without trouble, and come back for a follow-up or warranty visit when it's needed. When a lakeshore storm does damage, that reach also means we can respond rather than leaving you waiting out on the coast. For a waterfront community this far west, a roofer who still covers the area regularly is worth a lot.
Fruitport sits at the upstream end of Spring Lake, which connects to Lake Michigan by way of the Grand River at Grand Haven. The village takes its name from the area's fruit-growing heritage, when orchards shipped their harvest out along the water. Today it's a small village of around 1,100 in the southern part of Fruitport Township, close to both Muskegon and Grand Haven and just a short hop from the big lake.
That setting gives Fruitport a distinctive housing mix. Waterfront and near-water homes along Spring Lake sit alongside older village homes, newer suburban subdivisions, and rural properties on the township's edges. A roofer here has to read the exposure of each home, since a lakeside house faces very different weather than one tucked inland.
Sitting near the Lake Michigan shoreline, Fruitport catches heavy lake-effect snow that piles onto roofs and stays for weeks, and the freeze-thaw cycle that follows drives meltwater under shingles and into flashing. On older or under-insulated homes, that cycle builds ice dams along the eaves. On the waterfront homes along Spring Lake, strong wind off the open water adds uplift that works at shingle edges and flashing, while shaded slopes near the water stay damp enough to grow moss and algae.
Because exposure varies so much here, the right roof does too. On wind-exposed lakeside homes we lean on wind-rated shingles, tight edge detailing, and heavy ice-and-water protection at the eaves, and on the older village and inland homes the priorities shift toward decking, flashing, and ventilation. Getting those details right for the specific lot is what makes a Fruitport roof last. On the homes right along Spring Lake we pay especially close attention to the wind-facing edges and the fasteners, because a gust off the open water finds any weak spot. Many of the older lake homes started as summer cottages and were later turned into year-round houses, which shows up in their roofs, so we inspect what's underneath before we build.
We cover this part of the coast regularly, and the roofs we install in Fruitport face the same weather the neighbors' roofs do, so word travels fast about which ones hold up. We build each one for the conditions it actually faces, and we stand behind the work. That's the kind of accountability you want from a roofer who knows what the lakeshore can throw at a house.
Homeowners often wonder when it’s the right time for a roof replacement. Some of the most common indicators include:
Shingles that are curled, cracked, missing, or showing heavy wear
Water stains appearing on ceilings or walls inside the home
Moss, mold, or algae growth across the roof
A roof that’s over 20 years old
Noticeable storm damage
Thinking about installing a brand-new roof or adding one to an existing structure?
Usually done during new construction or major home additions
Ensures complete protection from the elements
Delivers a durable, professionally installed roofing system built to last

This process means putting on a brand-new roof for a building that either doesn’t have one yet or is going through major structural changes. It’s most commonly needed in situations such as:
New Construction: Adding a roof to a newly built home or property.
Major Renovations: Making large-scale updates to an existing structure that require a completely new roofing system.

Choosing Schoenherr Roofing means choosing more than a contractor—you’re choosing a partner dedicated to craftsmanship, dependable service, and delivering top-quality results every single time.
Both roof installation and roof replacement provide you with a new roof, but the process, cost, and considerations are very different.
Roof Installation
Best suited for new construction or major renovations
Allows more flexibility in design and material choices
No old roofing to remove, making it a cleaner and simpler process
Roof Replacement
Involves removing and replacing an existing roof
May require structural reinforcements or code updates
Can improve energy efficiency and increase your home’s value
Bottom Line: If you’re building a new home or adding on to your existing one, roof installation is the right choice. If your current roof is too old or damaged to repair, a replacement is the smarter investment for long-term protection and performance.
As a Michigan roofing company, we know just how demanding the local climate can be on your roof. From heavy snow and ice in the winter to powerful spring winds and the heat of summer, Michigan weather puts roofing systems through constant stress. Over the years, we’ve seen the issues homeowners here face most often—and we know the best ways to prevent them.
With that experience, we can recommend roofing solutions designed specifically for Michigan homes, giving you strength, energy efficiency, and long-term protection.
When you choose Schoenherr Roofing, you’re getting more than a contractor—you’re getting a local expert who understands Michigan’s weather challenges and provides tailored solutions and quality service to keep your home safe.
Roofing Material Choices
Asphalt shingles – The most popular and cost-effective choice.
Slate or tile – Higher priced but built to last for decades.
Understanding these cost differences helps homeowners pick the material that best fits their budget.
Roof Size
Larger roofs need more materials, which naturally drives up the price.
Extra shingles, underlayment, and other components all add to the total cost.
Roof Complexity
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or intricate designs take more time and expertise to complete.
The added complexity increases both labor and material expenses.
In Michigan, the changing seasons have a big influence on roofing projects and overall costs. Winter often brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures that can make roofing unsafe—or in some cases, impossible. During these months, contractor availability is limited, and prices are usually higher.
Spring and fall are generally the best times for roofing. With mild weather and fewer chances of heavy rain, projects can be completed more efficiently, often at lower costs, and with more contractors available.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, homeowners can save money and make sure their roofing projects are completed smoothly and on schedule.
Choosing the right roofing service—whether you need a brand-new roof or a replacement—brings long-term value you can count on. It helps you save money over time and gives you peace of mind knowing your home is well protected. Fast, professional repairs also keep small problems from turning into costly issues that might eventually require a full replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always more affordable than replacing the entire roof.
A trusted roofing service makes sure your roof does its job—protecting your home from water damage, mold, and other expensive problems caused by a failing roof. DIY fixes might sound tempting, but relying on an experienced roofing contractor is the smarter move for expert advice and reliable results.
In the end, taking care of your roof is really about safeguarding your home’s value and long-term safety. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and professional recommendations.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office at 2828 Kraft Ave SE is about 35 miles east of Fruitport, roughly a 45-minute drive out I-96 toward the lakeshore, so we serve the village and the surrounding area. You can reach the office at (616) 421-9687. Even out toward the coast, that’s a manageable trip for estimates, installations, and storm response.
Yes. Fruitport sits at the upstream end of Spring Lake, and we roof waterfront and near-water homes there regularly. Homes on the water sit fully exposed to wind and moisture, so we focus on wind-rated shingles, tight edge detailing, and heavy ice-and-water protection at the eaves, and we build each roof for the exposure of its lot.
Sitting near the Lake Michigan shoreline, Fruitport catches heavy lake-effect snow that piles onto roofs and stays for weeks, and the freeze-thaw cycle that follows drives meltwater under shingles and into flashing. Strong wind off the open water adds uplift on exposed homes, and shaded slopes near the water stay damp enough to grow moss and algae.
Many of the older lake homes around Fruitport started as summer cottages and were later turned into year-round houses, which shows up in their roofs as older framing, added-on sections, and layered roofing from past updates. We inspect what’s underneath and build a roof suited to the exposure and to year-round use.
On wind-exposed Fruitport homes we use wind-rated shingles, nail them to the manufacturer’s high-wind pattern, seal the starter course and edges tightly, and add ice-and-water membrane where it counts. Proper fastening and edge detailing are what keep a roof from lifting when a strong gust comes off Spring Lake or Lake Michigan.
Yes. Beyond the waterfront, the Fruitport area has rural properties and farmland, and we roof farmhouses along with their barns and outbuildings. Metal roofing is often a durable, low-maintenance choice for the large roof spans on agricultural buildings, and we can handle the whole property.

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in their services! They had great communication skills. They kept us updated with scheduling and progress pictures of what was completed. One of the days we were surprised with a terrible storm that popped up in the middle of the tear off/install. Even with the 50+ mph winds and extreme rain the guys successfully tarped off our house with no leaks! Also, they're very reasonably priced and went to great lengths to protect our landscape. Thanks for a great experience!Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
