Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Byron Center sits about 12 miles southwest of our Grand Rapids office on Kraft Ave SE, a short 20-minute hop across the metro. That keeps this Kent County community well within easy reach for our crews, and the short trip helps at every step. We can get out for a free estimate quickly, bring trucks and material without a long haul, and come back easily for a follow-up or warranty visit. When a storm rolls through, that closeness also means a fast response instead of a long wait. For a fast-growing community this close to home, a nearby roofer is a real convenience.
Byron Center grew up as a farming community in the southwest corner of Kent County. Byron Township was organized in 1836, named after the English poet Lord Byron, and the community took shape around a crossroads post office and, later, the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. For generations it was a landscape of dairy barns, fruit orchards, and vegetable fields serving Grand Rapids.
Today Byron Center is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the area, its township population climbing from about 20,000 in 2010 to nearly 27,000 by 2020. The old farmlands around 76th and 84th Streets now hold new subdivisions, townhomes, and developments near the Tanger Outlets, while historic farmhouses still stand along the tree-lined streets. That mix leaves the community with roofs of every age, from century-old farmhouses to brand-new construction.
West Michigan weather gives every Byron Center roof a full four-season workout. Winter snow load and the freeze-thaw cycle lift shingles and crack flashing, and on older or under-insulated homes they build ice dams along the eaves. Spring and summer add the straight-line wind and occasional hail that cross the region most years. Over time, that steady cycle wears out even a well-built roof.
The community's range of homes brings different jobs. The newer subdivision roofs are mostly a matter of builder-grade shingles reaching the twenty-year mark together, often with ventilation shortcuts left from a fast original build. The older farmhouses reveal aging decking and layered roofing once the tear-off begins. Sound flashing, fresh underlayment, and balanced attic ventilation are what carry a Byron Center roof through the seasons, whatever its age. Many of the newer neighborhoods off 84th Street went up close together, so whole streets tend to reach the end of a roof's life at once, and we often see the same failure patterns repeat from block to block, which helps us spot trouble early. The strong schools and easy highway access keep the market steady, so a sound roof is a real part of a home's value here, and worth doing right the first time.
Because Byron Center is close and growing fast, the roofs we install here are ones we drive past again and again, and our reputation rides on how they hold up. We treat every project like the neighbors will be looking at it for years, because in a tight-knit, community-minded place like this one, they will. Standing behind the work is how a roofer keeps earning it.
Homeowners often ask when it’s time to replace their roof. Here are some common signs:
Shingles that are curled, cracked, crumbling, or missing
Water stains on ceilings or walls inside your home
Moss, mold, or algae growing on the roof
A roof that’s more than 20 years old
Significant storm damage
Starting from scratch or adding a new roof to an existing structure?
Usually done during new construction or home additions
Protects the structure from the elements
Provides a durable, properly installed roofing system

Roof Replacement
Requires removing and replacing an existing roof

Can boost energy efficiency and increase property value
Bottom Line: If you’re building a new home or addition, roof installation is the right choice. If your current roof is worn out or too damaged to repair, a replacement provides long-term protection and performance.

Roofing Material Choices
Asphalt shingles – Budget-friendly and the most commonly used option.
Slate or tile – Higher cost but extremely durable.
Understanding the cost of different materials helps homeowners select the option that best fits their budget.
Roof Size
Larger roofs need more materials, which raises the total cost.
Extra shingles, underlayment, and components add to overall expenses.
Roof Complexity
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or detailed designs take more time and expertise.
Greater complexity increases both labor and material costs.
In Michigan, seasonal changes have a big impact on roofing projects and their costs. Winter’s snow, ice, and freezing temperatures can make roofing work unsafe or even impossible. As a result, contractors often have limited availability, and rates may be higher during this time.
Spring and fall are usually the best seasons for roofing. With mild temperatures and less rainfall, projects can be completed more efficiently, often at lower costs, with more contractors available.
By planning around these seasonal factors, homeowners can save money and ensure their roofing projects are finished smoothly and on time.
Choosing the right roofing service—whether a new installation or a replacement—brings long-term benefits. It can save you money over time and give you peace of mind. Quick, professional repairs can stop small issues from becoming major problems that might eventually require a full replacement. While costs vary depending on the damage, repairs are usually much more affordable than replacing the entire roof.
The right service keeps your roof protecting your home as it should, helping prevent water damage, mold, and other problems caused by a failing roof. And while DIY repairs may seem appealing, it’s always best to rely on a professional roofing contractor for dependable advice and quality work.
Remember, investing in your roof is also investing in your home’s value and long-term protection. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert recommendations.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office at 2828 Kraft Ave SE is about 12 miles northeast of Byron Center, a short 20-minute hop across the metro, so we serve the community regularly. You can reach the office at (616) 421-9687. That closeness keeps estimates, installations, and follow-up visits quick and convenient.
Yes. Byron Center is one of the fastest-growing communities in the area, and we work on its new subdivisions and new-construction homes regularly. Many of the homes built during its growth are now reaching the age where their builder-grade roofs wear out, and we handle those re-roofs as readily as new work.
Byron Center’s older farmhouses, remnants of its farming past, often reveal aging or plank decking, past additions, and layered roofing once the tear-off begins. Their larger, exposed roofs also need materials and fastening suited to open-country wind. We inspect the decking closely and build the roof to handle both the age of the home and its exposure.
Yes. Many of Byron Center’s newer subdivisions have guidelines on roof color and shingle style, and we’re used to working within them so your new roof stays compliant and fits the neighborhood. If your association requires approval first, we can provide the product details and documentation you need.
West Michigan winters bring real snow load to Byron Center, and the repeated freeze-thaw cycle works meltwater under shingles and into flashing. On older or under-insulated homes it also builds ice dams at the eaves. Proper attic ventilation, ice-and-water underlayment, and sound flashing are what keep that winter weather from finding its way inside.
Common signs include curling, cracked, or missing shingles, granules collecting in your gutters, dark streaks or moss, sagging areas, and stains or daylight in the attic. A Byron Center roof past about twenty years is worth having inspected even if it still looks fine from the ground. During a free inspection we can tell you whether a repair will do or it’s time to replace.

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in their services! They had great communication skills. They kept us updated with scheduling and progress pictures of what was completed. One of the days we were surprised with a terrible storm that popped up in the middle of the tear off/install. Even with the 50+ mph winds and extreme rain the guys successfully tarped off our house with no leaks! Also, they're very reasonably priced and went to great lengths to protect our landscape. Thanks for a great experience!Posted on Google![]()

They did a complete removal of shingles and roof boards that were in bad shape. The estimate was good for 10 days, so no pressure tactics. The work was done efficiently and in one day. The crew were very good and did a good cleanup job.Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
