Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Nunica sits about 25 miles west of our Grand Rapids office on Kraft Ave SE, roughly a 35-minute drive out I-96 toward the lakeshore. That keeps this small Ottawa County community and the country around it within our range. We can get out for a free estimate, bring trucks and material without trouble, and come back for a follow-up or warranty visit when it's needed. When a storm rolls through, that reach also means a faster response instead of a long wait. For a rural community between the metro and the coast, a roofer who covers the whole area regularly is a real convenience.
Nunica is an unincorporated community near the center of Crockery Township in Ottawa County, sitting close to where I-96, M-104, and M-231 come together. Settled in the 1830s and 1840s, it grew as a farming and mining community, once mining zinc from nearby Crockery Creek and serving as an important railroad stop before the trains stopped running. Today it's a small, quiet, largely rural place, surrounded by farmland and the low, wet ground along Crockery Creek and the Grand River.
That setting gives the area a practical mix of roofs. Older homes and farmhouses sit alongside rural properties and the barns, pole barns, and outbuildings that come with working land, plus newer homes scattered through the township. A roofer here has to be ready for an older home, a modern one, and a big agricultural roof span alike, and to travel a bit of country road to reach them. The quiet and the open land are part of the appeal out here, and they shape the kind of roofs we build.
West Michigan winters bring real snow load to Nunica, and the freeze-thaw cycle that follows drives meltwater under shingles and into flashing. On older or under-insulated homes, that same cycle builds ice dams along the eaves. Out over open farmland, roofs also catch wind with little to slow it and the occasional hail that crosses the region most summers. Homes on the low ground near Crockery Creek and the Grand River deal with extra moisture that works on flashing and decking over time.
The older homes and farmhouses tend to show wear first, with aging flashing, worn or layered shingles, and dated decking underneath. Farm buildings bring large roof spans where a durable, low-maintenance system pays off, and metal roofing often makes good sense there. Balanced attic ventilation, fresh underlayment, and sound flashing are what carry a Nunica roof through the seasons, whatever it sits on. In the low, wet pockets near the water, we also pay close attention to eave protection and to gutters and drainage, since that's where extra moisture tends to find its way in.
We work the stretch between Grand Rapids and the lakeshore regularly, so Nunica is a familiar part of our territory, not an afterthought at the edge of a map. In a small community like this, word travels fast about who does good work, so we build each roof to last and stand behind it. That follow-through is exactly what you want from a roofer, wherever your home sits.
Homeowners often wonder when it’s time to start thinking about a new roof. A few key signs include:
Shingles that are curled, cracked, crumbling, or missing
Water stains showing up on ceilings or walls inside the home
Moss, mold, or algae growing on the roof
A roof that’s more than 20 years old
Significant storm damage
Considering starting fresh or adding a roof to an existing structure?
Typically part of new construction or major home additions
Ensures full protection from the elements
Provides a durable, professionally installed roofing system built to last

This service becomes necessary when your roofing system can’t be repaired anymore or has reached the end of its lifespan. Signs that it may be time for a roof replacement include:
Aging Roof: Roofs more than 20 years old often need replacement due to natural wear and material deterioration.
Visible Damage: Significant problems such as missing shingles, major leaks, or structural sagging.
Frequent Repairs: If you’re constantly addressing issues, a full replacement is usually the more cost-effective choice.
Choosing Schoenherr Roofing’s replacement services means investing in your home’s safety and longevity. Our skilled team makes sure your new roof not only boosts your property’s curb appeal but also delivers strong, reliable protection against the elements.

Both roof installation and roof replacement provide you with a new roof, but the process, cost, and considerations are quite different.
Roof Installation:
Best for new construction or major renovations
Gives more flexibility in design and material choices
No old roofing to remove, making it a cleaner, simpler process
Roof Replacement:
Involves removing and replacing the existing roof
May require structural upgrades or bringing the home up to code
Can improve energy efficiency and boost property value
Bottom Line: If you’re building a new home or adding an addition, installation is the right choice. If your existing roof is too old or badly damaged, replacement is the smarter investment for long-term protection and performance.
The cost of roof installation or repair depends on several important factors, including the type of roofing material, the complexity of the project, and how accessible the roof is. For instance, asphalt shingles are usually more affordable than slate or metal roofing, which directly affects the overall price.
Roofs with steep slopes or detailed designs often require specialized tools and additional expertise, which can increase labor costs. By considering these factors, homeowners can make informed choices that fit both their budget and long-term goals.
Roofing Material Choices:
Asphalt shingles – Affordable and widely used
Slate or tile – Higher cost but extremely durable
Knowing these price differences helps homeowners select the option that best fits their budget.
Roof Size:
Larger roofs need more materials, which raises the overall cost
Extra shingles, underlayment, and components all add to expenses
Roof Complexity:
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or detailed designs require more time and skilled labor
Greater complexity increases both material and labor costs
In Michigan, seasonal changes play a major role in roofing projects and their costs. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures that can make roofing unsafe—or in some cases, impossible. During this time, contractor availability is limited and prices are often higher.
Spring and fall are usually the best times for roofing. With mild weather and less rain, projects can be completed more efficiently, often at lower costs, and with more contractors available.
By considering these seasonal factors, homeowners can better plan their roofing projects, save money, and ensure the work is completed smoothly and on schedule.
Choosing the right service for your roof, whether it’s a new installation or replacement, offers numerous benefits. It can save you money in the long run and provide peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from becoming major problems that require costly replacements. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they are generally more affordable than full replacements.
Selecting the right service ensures your roof effectively protects your home, preventing water damage, mold growth, and other issues caused by a damaged roof. Although DIY repairs may seem tempting, it’s crucial to consult a professional roofing contractor for trustworthy advice and quality service.
Remember, investing in your roof is also an investment in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Concerned about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert recommendations.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office at 2828 Kraft Ave SE is about 25 miles east of Nunica, roughly a 35-minute drive out I-96, so we serve the community and the surrounding Crockery Township regularly. You can reach the office at (616) 421-9687. Nunica sits right in the country we cover between Grand Rapids and the lakeshore.
Yes. The Nunica area is largely rural, and we regularly work on farmhouses and country homes along with their barns, pole barns, and outbuildings. Rural roofs come with their own considerations, and we’re set up to handle the whole property, from the house to the outbuildings, rather than just one structure.
Older and farmhouse-style homes around Nunica often hide aging decking, past additions, and layered roofing that show up once the tear-off begins. Their larger, more exposed roofs also need materials and fastening suited to open-country wind. We inspect the decking closely and build the roof to handle both the age and the exposure of the home.
They can. Nunica sits near Crockery Creek and the low, wet ground along the Grand River, and homes in those areas deal with extra moisture around the roof and foundation. That puts added demand on flashing, ventilation, and gutters to move water away from the house before it can cause damage.
Yes. Along with homes, we roof pole barns, detached garages, and other outbuildings common on Nunica-area properties. Metal roofing is often a practical, long-lasting choice for these larger roof spans, and we can roof an outbuilding on its own or as part of a whole-property project.
Yes. The stretch of country between Grand Rapids and the Lake Michigan lakeshore is part of our regular service area, and Nunica sits right in it. It’s a familiar part of our territory rather than an afterthought at the edge of the map, and we cover it for estimates, installations, and storm response.

We had a new roof and siding put on this year and it looks great! Once the new siding was put on, we had our pest control vendor come back to see if there were any areas needing blocked off so critters could not get into our house. The technician was so impressed with how everything was sealed properly, he asked for the name of the company that did the siding.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
