Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Kent City sits about 20 miles northwest of our Grand Rapids office on Kraft Ave SE, roughly a 30-minute drive. That keeps this small Kent County village and the farm country around it well within our range. We can get out for a free estimate, bring trucks and material without trouble, and come back for a follow-up or warranty visit when it's needed. When a storm rolls through, that reach also means a faster response instead of a long wait, even out here on the north edge of the county. For a smaller community a little off the beaten path, having a roofer who still covers the area regularly makes a real difference.
Kent City is a small village in Tyrone Township, tucked into the agricultural country in the northwest corner of Kent County. It grew up as a rural crossroads and railroad community, and farming has shaped it ever since, with orchards and working farms spread across the surrounding land. With just over 1,200 residents in the village itself, it keeps a tight-knit, small-town feel that the newer subdivisions closer to Grand Rapids don't have.
That setting gives the area a practical mix of roofs. Older homes near the village center sit alongside farmhouses, rural properties, and the barns, pole barns, and outbuildings that come with working land, plus a scattering of newer homes. A roofer here has to be ready for an older village home, a modern house, and a big agricultural roof span alike, and to travel a bit of country road to get to them. That variety is part of what makes rural work rewarding, since no two properties out here are quite alike.
Sitting northwest of Grand Rapids, Kent City takes real winter snow, and the repeated freeze-thaw cycle drives meltwater under shingles and into flashing over the season. On older or under-insulated homes, that same cycle builds ice dams along the eaves where trapped water can back up beneath the shingles. Out over open farmland, roofs also catch wind with little to slow it and the occasional hail that crosses West Michigan most summers.
The older village homes tend to show wear first, with aging flashing, worn or layered shingles, and dated decking underneath. Farm buildings bring large roof spans where a durable, low-maintenance system pays off, and metal roofing often makes good sense there. Balanced attic ventilation, fresh underlayment, and sound flashing are what keep Kent City's winters and storms on the outside of the building, whatever the roof sits on. On the orchard and farm buildings especially, we plan the tear-off and cleanup around gravel drives and open yards, running a magnet over the ground to catch every stray nail before we leave.
In a village the size of Kent City, people notice who does good work, and word travels fast when a roof fails a winter later. We're glad to make the short trip north, and we treat a Kent City project like our reputation depends on it, because in a community this connected, it does. Standing behind the work is how a roofer keeps earning it, in town or out in the country.
Homeowners often ask when they should start thinking about a new roof. Here are a few key signs:
Shingles that are curled, cracked, crumbling, or missing
Water stains on ceilings or walls inside your home
Moss, mold, or algae growing on the roof
A roof that’s more than 20 years old
Significant storm damage
Considering starting fresh or adding a roof to an existing structure?
Typically part of new construction or home additions
Ensures full protection against the elements
Provides a durable, professionally installed roofing system built to last
If you’re looking for a roofing company that provides expert roof installation and replacement in Kent City, Schoenherr Roofing is the team you can trust. This service becomes necessary when your current roofing system can no longer be repaired or has reached the end of its lifespan. Signs that it may be time for a roof replacement include:
Aging Roof: Roofs over 20 years old often need replacing due to natural wear and material deterioration.
Visible Damage: Significant issues such as missing shingles, major leaks, or structural sagging.
Frequent Repairs: If repairs are becoming constant, a full replacement is usually the more cost-effective choice.
By choosing Schoenherr Roofing’s replacement services, you invest in the longevity and safety of your home. Our experienced team ensures that your new roof not only enhances your property’s curb appeal but also provides robust protection against the elements.

Both roof installation and roof replacement give you a new roof, but the process, cost, and factors to consider are very different.
Roof Installation:
Ideal for new construction or major renovations
Offers more flexibility in design and material options
No old roofing to remove, making it a cleaner and simpler process
Roof Replacement:
Requires removing and replacing the existing roof
May call for structural reinforcements or code upgrades
Can boost energy efficiency and increase property value
Bottom Line: If you’re building a new home or adding on, installation is the best choice. If your current roof is old or too damaged to repair, replacement is the smarter investment for long-term protection and performance.
The cost of roof installation or repair depends on several factors, such as the type of roofing material, the complexity of the project, and how accessible the roof is. For instance, asphalt shingles are usually more affordable than slate or metal roofing, which directly affects the overall price.
Roofs with steep pitches or complex designs often require specialized tools and additional expertise, which can raise labor costs. Understanding these factors helps homeowners make informed choices that fit both their budget and long-term goals.
Roofing Material Choices:
Roof Size:
Roof Complexity:
In Michigan, seasonal changes can affect roofing jobs and their costs. During winter, harsh weather conditions like snow, ice, and freezing temperatures can make it unsafe or even impossible to work on roofs. As a result, roofing contractors may have limited availability and may charge higher rates during this time.
Spring and fall typically offer more favorable weather for roofing projects. With milder temperatures and less rain, it’s easier to work, which often leads to lower prices and more roofing contractors available to help.
By understanding these seasonal factors, homeowners can better plan their roofing projects, potentially saving money and ensuring the work is completed more efficiently.
Choosing the right service for your roof, whether it’s a new installation or replacement, offers numerous benefits. It can save you money in the long run and provide peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from becoming major problems that require costly replacements. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they are generally more affordable than full replacements.
Selecting the right service ensures your roof effectively protects your home, preventing water damage, mold growth, and other issues caused by a damaged roof. Although DIY repairs may seem tempting, it’s crucial to consult a professional roofing contractor for trustworthy advice and quality service.
Remember, investing in your roof is also an investment in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Concerned about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert recommendations.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office at 2828 Kraft Ave SE is about 20 miles southeast of Kent City, roughly a 30-minute drive, so we serve the village and the surrounding farm country regularly. You can reach the office at (616) 421-9687. That reach keeps estimates, installations, and follow-up visits manageable even out on the north edge of the county.
Yes. Kent City sits in farm and orchard country, and we regularly roof farmhouses, pole barns, and outbuildings along with the main house. Metal roofing is often a durable, low-maintenance choice for the large roof spans on agricultural buildings, and we handle the whole property rather than just the home.
Roofing contractors offer a range of services, including roof repairs, new roof installations, roof inspections, ongoing maintenance, and support with various roofing projects.
It often is. Metal roofing sheds heavy snow well, stands up to wind, and lasts far longer than asphalt with little maintenance, which suits both farm buildings and exposed rural homes around Kent City. We install both metal and asphalt systems and can compare the cost and lifespan for your specific building.
Sitting northwest of Grand Rapids, Kent City takes real winter snow load, and the repeated freeze-thaw cycle works meltwater under shingles and into flashing. On older or under-insulated homes it also builds ice dams at the eaves. Proper attic ventilation, ice-and-water underlayment, and sound flashing are what keep that winter weather from finding its way inside.
Yes. We regularly work in the smaller, more rural communities across the region, not just the larger suburbs, and Kent City is a familiar part of our territory. The short drive north doesn’t change the quality of the work or the attention your roof gets.

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
