Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Our Sterling Heights office at 42850 Schoenherr Road is only about 8 miles from Harrison Township, a quick 15-minute drive east toward the water. We work this side of Macomb County constantly, so the canals and shoreline here are easy for our crews to reach.
That closeness is a real benefit to you. We come out for free estimates quickly, our crews arrive on time, and warranty or touch-up visits are simple to schedule. When a home this close to open water springs a leak, being just up the road means we can get there fast. In storm season that speed can be the difference between a lifted shingle and a soaked ceiling.
Harrison Township is known across the region as Boat Town, and for good reason. The community is laced with miles of wide, deep-water canals that run straight out to Lake St. Clair, ringed by marinas, and anchored by the Lake St. Clair Metropark and Selfridge. Part of the township is effectively an island, wrapped by the Clinton River and the lake.
All that water shapes the housing and the roofs. Postwar neighborhoods built for autoworkers sit alongside canal homes with docks and premium waterfront estates, and the homes closest to the open water work the hardest. A roof on the bay or a canal lives with wind and moisture that a sheltered inland home never sees. Between the canals, the bays, and Lake St. Clair itself, a large share of Harrison Township homes sit within a stone's throw of water, and even the inland streets feel the weather that rolls in off the open lake.
Homes along the canals and Lake St. Clair take steady wind and moisture off the open water, which lifts and creases shingles and drives rain under flashing. Low-lying lots and the island neighborhoods hold humidity that keeps roofs and trim damp, and older cottages converted to year-round homes often carry roofs never built for four Michigan seasons. Freeze-thaw cycles then drive ice dams along the eaves.
We build these roofs to stand up to the setting. That means wind-rated, well-sealed shingles, careful flashing at every edge and penetration, and ice-and-water shield along the vulnerable eaves and valleys. On waterfront homes we also check the fascia, soffit, and gutters, since the constant moisture off the lake tends to find any weak spot in the trim first. On the island neighborhoods and the low canal lots, we pay particular attention to drainage and the eaves, since standing humidity and wind-driven rain are relentless there.
We've roofed Macomb County since 1995, waterfront and inland alike. In a tight boating community, a contractor's name travels fast from dock to dock, so we treat every Harrison Township job like the reference it becomes. It's the same standard behind all 6,200-plus Michigan roofs we've installed, and being close by means we're easy to reach when the weather off the lake turns. If your home has a dock, a boat well, or canal frontage, we factor that access into how we stage the job so nothing on the water gets in the way.
Homeowners often wonder when it’s time to replace their roof. Here are some clear signs that may indicate it’s time for an upgrade:
Curled, cracked, crumbling, or missing shingles
Water stains on ceilings or interior walls
Moss, mold, or algae growing on the roof surface
A roof that’s more than 20 years old
Noticeable damage from storms or severe weather
Building new or expanding your home?
Roof installation is essential during new construction or home additions
Protects the structure from weather, moisture, and long-term wear
Delivers a durable, well-built roofing system when installed properly
If you’re looking for a reliable team for roof installation or replacement, contact Schoenherr Roofing. We start with a free, no-obligation consultation to figure out if your home needs a full replacement or just some repairs.
When it’s time for a new roof, you can count on us for expert installation and replacement services designed for long-term performance. With over 30 years of experience serving the community, we’re committed to delivering craftsmanship you can trust. Our team installs:
Asphalt composite shingle roofing
Long-lasting metal roofing
Rolled roofing for low-slope sheds and garages
This process involves adding a roof to a structure that either doesn’t have one yet or is undergoing major structural changes. It’s usually needed in situations like:
New Construction: Installing a roof on a brand-new home or building.
Major Renovations: Making extensive updates to an existing structure that require a full roof installation.
This service becomes essential when your existing roof is no longer repairable or has outlived its useful life. Here are some common signs that a full roof replacement might be the right move:
Aging Roof: Roofs over 20 years old often suffer from material breakdown and reduced performance.
Visible Damage: Issues like missing shingles, large leaks, or noticeable sagging may signal deeper structural problems.
Frequent Repairs: If you’re constantly patching your roof, replacing it may be a smarter, more cost-effective long-term solution.
Choosing Schoenherr Roofing for your roof replacement means investing in the long-term safety and durability of your home. Our experienced team makes sure your new roof boosts curb appeal while delivering reliable protection from the elements.

Both roof installation and roof replacement give you a brand-new roof, but they differ in process, cost, and what needs to be considered.
Roof Installation:
Best for new builds or major remodels
Greater flexibility in choosing materials and design
No old roof to remove, so the job is typically quicker and cleaner
Roof Replacement:
Involves removing the existing roof before installing the new one
May require structural upgrades or code compliance updates
Can boost energy efficiency and increase your home’s value
Bottom Line:
If you’re building a new home or adding on, roof installation is the way to go. If your current roof is too old or damaged to fix, a full replacement offers the protection and performance your home needs.
The cost of a roof installation or repair depends on several important factors. These include the type of roofing material, the complexity of the project, and how accessible your roof is. For instance, asphalt shingles are usually more budget-friendly, while premium options like slate or metal can drive up the total cost.
Steep slopes or complex roof designs often require special tools and experienced labor, which can increase the labor portion of the bill. Knowing what affects pricing helps homeowners make smart, cost-effective choices that align with their goals and budget.
Roofing Material Choices:
Roof Size:
Roof Complexity:
In Harrison Township, Michigan’s changing seasons have a big impact on roofing timelines and efficiency. Winter often brings snow, ice, and freezing temps, making roof work risky or even impossible. Fewer contractors are available, and weather delays can lead to higher costs and extended project timelines.
Spring and fall are typically the best times for roofing. With milder temperatures and more stable weather, crews can work safely and efficiently. These seasons also tend to offer better availability and more competitive pricing.
Planning your roofing project around these seasonal patterns can help you save money, avoid delays, and ensure the job is completed smoothly and on schedule.
Choosing the right roofing service—whether it’s a full installation or a minor repair—can make all the difference. It helps protect your home and often saves you money in the long run. Addressing small issues early prevents them from turning into costly repairs or even full replacements down the road.
A well-maintained roof keeps out leaks, mold, and damage caused by aging or failing materials. While DIY might seem like a quick solution, hiring a professional ensures the work is done safely and correctly the first time.
Your roof is a key part of your home’s protection and value. If you’re unsure about its condition, reach out to Schoenherr Roofing for a free inspection and trusted, expert advice.

Yes. Harrison Township’s canal and lakefront homes take steady wind and moisture off the open water, which lifts shingles and drives rain under flashing. We build these roofs with wind-rated, well-sealed shingles and careful flashing at every edge and penetration so they stand up to everything the lake sends at them.
It can. The low-lying island lots and canal streets hold humidity that keeps roofs and trim damp longer, which speeds up moss growth and wood rot. On these homes we check the fascia, soffit, and gutters along with the shingles, since the constant moisture tends to find the trim first.
Yes, and it’s common near the water. Many of these homes started as seasonal cottages with roofs never built for four Michigan seasons. We inspect one honestly and, when it’s time, give it a full re-roof with proper ventilation and ice-and-water protection built for year-round living.
Yes. Storms that come across Lake St. Clair can lift and tear shingles and damage flashing quickly. We inspect the whole roof, document any storm damage with photos, and can walk you through the insurance claim so the repair or replacement is handled properly.
No. We’re used to working on tight waterfront lots, so we plan access around your dock, boat well, or canal frontage and stage the job so nothing on the water is in the way. The goal is a clean, safe install that leaves your waterfront exactly as we found it.

Our experience with Schoenherr Roofing has been very pleasant. Our sales consultant, Nate and project manager, Josh H. were both professional and personable. We were very impressed with the excellent communication by Josh before, during, and after our project. The cleanup the roofing crew did was also outstanding. We love our new roof!Posted on Google![]()

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in their services! They had great communication skills. They kept us updated with scheduling and progress pictures of what was completed. One of the days we were surprised with a terrible storm that popped up in the middle of the tear off/install. Even with the 50+ mph winds and extreme rain the guys successfully tarped off our house with no leaks! Also, they're very reasonably priced and went to great lengths to protect our landscape. Thanks for a great experience!Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
