Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Rockford sits about fourteen miles north of our office at 2828 Kraft Avenue SE, the closest Schoenherr location, an easy run up US-131. That’s close enough that our crews handle Rockford’s downtown, riverside, and subdivision roofs as regular work, without the long haul a contractor from farther out would tack on.
On the older homes near the river and the larger homes on wooded lots, a leak can work through a complex roof before anyone notices, so getting a technician up there quickly is what keeps a small problem small. From Grand Rapids we can be looking at a Rockford roof within a day or two of your call.
Rockford grew up on the Rogue River, where Smith Lapham helped finish a dam and sawmill in the 1840s and a town took shape around the water. Home to footwear maker Wolverine Worldwide since the 1880s, the maker of Merrell, Hush Puppies, and Chaco, Rockford today pairs a walkable historic downtown along Squires Street with the Rockford Dam Overlook, the Rogue River, and the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail running right through the center of town. It’s become one of the most desirable communities north of Grand Rapids.
That desirability shows on the rooftops. Rockford mixes older downtown homes with steep, detailed rooflines, newer subdivisions on a shared roof-age timeline, and larger homes on wooded and riverside lots along the Rogue. From ornate historic roofs to complex custom ones, it’s exactly the kind of varied housing where a roof repair takes real experience, both to find the leak and to fix it so it holds and still looks right.
On the older downtown homes and the larger custom homes, leaks start at the details rather than the open shingles. Worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing at the many wall-to-roof transitions, and tired valley metal are the classic failure points, and on a bigger or older home water can travel a long way through framing before it shows on a ceiling. The newer subdivisions bring the opposite pattern, builder-grade shingles aging together across whole streets.
The river-and-woods setting adds to it. Mature canopy along the Rogue drops limbs and packs leaf litter into valleys, and heavy shade keeps north slopes damp enough to grow moss, while humidity off the river keeps flashing wet longer. West Michigan winters bring heavy lake-effect snow that melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams, forcing water up under the shingles. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and a quick inspection after a big storm is the cheapest insurance a Rockford homeowner can buy.
We work Rockford regularly, from the Squires Street downtown to the riverside and subdivision streets, and it’s a short run from our Grand Rapids office. That keeps us accountable, and it keeps response times short. We’d rather fix your flashing right the first time than be the name a neighbor warns you about. We’ve served Michigan homeowners since 1995, and a community like Rockford is exactly the kind of place that record was built for.
Rockford’s weather takes a serious toll on roofs. Hot, humid summers and long, icy winters can wear down even the strongest roofing systems. Strong winds and storms may crack or rip away shingles, while heavy rain and ice buildup often cause leaks or structural damage. When gutters clog, water backs up, raising the risk of mold and further damage.
Spotting these problems early can save you a lot of money. If you notice any signs of damage, reach out to a professional roofer right away—before a small issue grows into a costly repair.
Rockford’s weather puts serious pressure on roofs. In the summer, the hot sun dries out asphalt shingles, making them brittle and more likely to crack. Heavy rain or hail can clog gutters, pushing water under the shingles and leading to leaks.
Winter brings even tougher conditions. Snow and ice add significant weight to your roof, which can cause major damage. The freeze-and-thaw cycle makes things worse, as expanding and contracting ice creates cracks that grow over time.
That’s why regular roof inspections are essential, especially after severe weather. They allow you to spot small problems early—before they turn into expensive repairs.

Choose Roof Repairs If:
The damage is minor, like a few missing shingles
Your roof is still fairly new and in good condition overall
A small leak is confined to one repairable area
Consider Roof Replacement If:
Your roof is more than 20 years old and showing heavy wear
A large section of the roof has been damaged
Repair costs are close to the price of a full replacement
Not sure which option is right for you? Our experts will explain your choices and recommend the solution that best fits your home’s needs.
Roof repair costs are influenced by several factors, including the type of roofing material, the complexity of the project, and how easy the roof is to access. Asphalt shingles are usually the most budget-friendly, while slate or metal can increase the overall price.
Steep or intricately designed roofs often require specialized tools and greater expertise, which can also add to the expense. Understanding these factors helps homeowners set realistic expectations and plan repairs that fit both their budget and long-term goals.
Roofing Material Options
Asphalt shingles – A cost-effective and widely used option.
Slate or tile – Pricier, but extremely durable and long-lasting.
Knowing the price differences helps homeowners pick the material that best fits their budget.
Roof Size
Larger roofs need more materials, which drives up the overall cost. Extra shingles, underlayment, and other components all contribute to the expense.
Roof Complexity
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or detailed designs take more time and skill to complete. This added complexity increases both material and labor costs.
Michigan’s seasons greatly affect roofing projects and their cost. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures that make roofing difficult and sometimes unsafe. During this time, contractors are harder to book, and prices often increase because of the extra challenges.
Spring and fall are typically the best times to schedule roofing work. With mild weather and less rain, projects move along more smoothly, which usually means better contractor availability and lower costs.
By factoring in these seasonal changes, homeowners can save money, avoid delays, and ensure their roofing projects are finished more efficiently.
Deciding whether your roof needs a repair or a full replacement brings plenty of benefits. The right choice can save you money over time and give you peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from turning into major problems that may require an expensive replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always less than the cost of a full roof replacement.
Choosing the right service keeps your roof doing what it’s meant to—protecting your home from leaks, mold, and the expensive problems that come with a failing roof. DIY fixes might seem simple, but it’s always best to rely on a professional roofing contractor for straightforward advice and dependable service.
Caring for your roof is really an investment in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert guidance.
Our Grand Rapids office is only about fourteen miles south of Rockford, a straight run down US-131, so Rockford is regular local work for us. For an active leak we prioritize getting on the roof quickly, sealing it the same visit when needed, then scheduling the permanent repair.
Yes. The older homes around Rockford’s historic downtown have steep, detailed rooflines where leaks tend to start at the flashing and valleys rather than the open shingles. We repair those older roofs, reseal the flashing and valleys, and blend the shingle work in so the fix seals without disturbing the home’s character.
They can. Homes on the wooded, riverside lots along the Rogue sit in more shade and humidity, which keeps flashing, valleys, and north slopes damp longer and grows moss, while the mature canopy drops limbs and clogs valleys. On riverside Rockford homes we inspect the valleys, flashing, and shaded slopes closely, since that’s where moisture and tree-driven leaks tend to start.
The newer subdivisions around Rockford went up with builder-grade shingles on a shared timeline, so whole streets reach the end of their shingle life around the same time. When one home starts showing worn shingles and leaks, the neighbors usually aren’t far behind. We can tell you where your roof sits on that clock and whether a repair or replacement makes more sense.
Rockford gets the heavy lake-effect snow that comes off Lake Michigan, which loads more weight and moisture on roofs than most of the state sees. On homes with thin attic insulation, that snow melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams that push water back up under the shingles. We repair the resulting leaks and can point out the insulation and ventilation gaps behind them.
In most cases, yes. We blend replacement shingles and materials into the surrounding roof by color and profile so a repair doesn’t stand out from the street, which matters on Rockford’s well-kept downtown and higher-value homes. If an older or specialty material has been discontinued, we’ll show you the closest match and be upfront about how visible the repair will be.

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
