Oakland Township sits just north of Rochester, only about six miles from our office at 425 Walnut Boulevard. That’s close enough that our crews handle Oakland Township’s estate and rural roofs as regular local work, without the delay of a contractor coming from farther out.
On large homes set back on wooded, rolling lots, a leak can work through a complex roof and expensive interior finishes before anyone notices, so getting a technician up there quickly is what keeps a small problem small. From our Rochester office we can be looking at an Oakland Township roof within a day or two of your call.
Oakland Township is one of the greener, more rural communities in this part of Oakland County, a place that has worked hard to preserve open space and country character even as the suburbs pressed in around it. Paint Creek winds through on its way south to Rochester, the township holds part of the Bald Mountain State Recreation Area and a network of preserved parkland and trails, and its neighborhoods lean toward large-lot estates and custom homes on wooded, rolling acreage rather than dense subdivisions. It’s the kind of place people choose for space, trees, and privacy.
That setting shapes the roofs. Oakland Township is dominated by larger custom and estate homes on big wooded lots, mixed with older farmhouses and some newer builds, rather than uniform subdivisions. From big, complex estate roofs with many wings and valleys to century-old farmhouse roofs, it’s exactly the kind of large, detailed housing where a roof repair takes real experience. Out here the nearest neighbor can be well across a wooded lot, so a problem on one roof often goes unseen until the damage is along, which is why we push for an early look.
On the large estate homes, complexity and the wooded setting drive the leaks. More wings, valleys, dormers, and flashing joints mean more places for water to sneak in, and it almost always starts at those transitions rather than in the open shingles. The mature canopy over these lots drops limbs and packs leaf litter into valleys and keeps shaded slopes damp, and on a big home water can travel a long way before it shows on a ceiling. Older farmhouses bring aging flashing and layered re-roofing over brittle underlayment.
Southeast Michigan’s freeze-thaw winters push it further. Snow melts during the day and refreezes at night, prying at loose flashing and building ice dams at the eaves that force water back up under the shingles. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and on a significant Oakland Township home an early inspection protects both the roof and the finishes underneath it.
Repairing a large home on acreage is as much about care as it is about roofing. We match materials and blend repairs so the work holds up and doesn’t stand out, and it’s a short run from our Rochester office. Our reputation depends on doing the flashing and valley work correctly and standing behind it. We’ve served Southeast Michigan since 1995, and Oakland Township’s large, complex roofs are exactly where that experience shows.
Roof problems never seem to show up when it’s convenient—but keeping your roof in good shape is key to protecting your home. That’s where Schoenherr Roofing comes in. We’re just a phone call away, ready to help you figure out whether a repair will do the trick or if it’s time for a full replacement. The right call depends on a few things: the type of roofing, how old it is, and how bad the damage really is.
Our team at Schoenherr Roofing performs in-depth inspections on all kinds of roofs, from asphalt shingles to metal systems. We don’t just look for the obvious stuff like missing shingles—we dig deeper to catch hidden issues like attic leaks. Once we’ve got the full picture, we create a personalized repair plan designed to restore your roof’s strength and reliability.
In Oakland, MI, the weather swings can be brutal—scorching, sticky summers and freezing, snow-packed winters. Over time, that kind of climate takes a toll on your roof, especially if it’s made from common materials like asphalt shingles.
Strong winds can rip shingles loose or tear them off entirely, leaving your roof vulnerable to leaks. And when winter hits, heavy snow can pile up and create ice dams—those ridges of ice that block proper drainage and let water sneak into your home.
Putting off repairs might seem harmless at first, but small issues can quickly snowball into major damage—and major costs. Catching problems early protects your home and keeps your repair bill a lot lower.
Not sure if it’s time to call in a roofing pro? Some warning signs are easy to spot, while others fly under the radar. Obvious red flags include missing, cracked, or curling shingles—clear signs your roof’s taking a beating. Water stains on your ceilings or walls might point to hidden leaks. A drooping or uneven roofline can mean structural trouble. And if you’re seeing lots of granules in your gutters, your shingles are probably nearing the end of their life.
Even moss or algae growth could be a clue—moisture might be getting trapped where it shouldn’t. If your asphalt shingle roof is approaching the 20 to 25-year mark, it’s a smart move to schedule an inspection and see where things stand.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we offer full-service roof repairs designed around your home’s unique needs. We’re not here for patch jobs—we’re here to strengthen your roof and make sure it holds up for the long haul.
From tracking down stubborn leaks to replacing damaged shingles and handling routine maintenance, our crew takes care of it all. We use only top-tier materials from Atlas and Owens Corning, paired with tried-and-true techniques, to deliver results you can count on for years to come.
A roof leak can cause major damage if not addressed promptly. At Schoenherr Roofing, we prioritize early detection and repair to prevent larger problems.
We don’t just patch the surface—we dig deeper. Our team carries out detailed inspections of your attic, roof decking, and other key areas to find exactly where the leak is coming from. The goal? Fix the real problem, not just the signs of it, so you get a repair that actually lasts.
Whether the issue stems from cracked shingles, worn-out sealant, or faulty flashing, we take a thorough, no-shortcuts approach to restore your roof and help keep water damage from coming back.

Yes. Our Rochester office is only about six miles from Oakland Township, just to the south, so it’s regular local work for us. For an active leak we prioritize getting on the roof quickly, sealing it the same visit when needed, then scheduling the permanent repair, which matters on the large homes here where water can do costly damage fast.
On Oakland Township’s large custom and estate homes, leaks almost never start in the open field of shingles. They start at the transitions, the valleys, the step flashing where a wall or chimney meets the roof, and the boots around vents. Those homes have many wings and joints, so a single failed flashing point can send water a long way before it shows inside. We trace the water to the actual joint and reflash it.
They do. Oakland Township’s mature canopy drops limbs onto roofs in wind, packs leaf litter into valleys, and keeps shaded north slopes damp enough to grow moss. On these wooded estate lots we pay close attention to the valleys, flashing, and shaded slopes, since that’s where tree and moisture-driven leaks tend to start, and we can point out canopy worth trimming back from the roof.
Yes. Alongside the estates, Oakland Township has older farmhouses on its rural land, and we repair those too. They tend to leak at worn chimney and step flashing and tired valley metal rather than the open shingles, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment. We trace the leak to its real entry point and repair it so it seals and holds.
We do our best to make sure it isn’t. We match replacement shingles and materials to the existing roof by color and profile and blend the repair into the surrounding area, which matters on the township’s high-value homes. If an older or specialty material has been discontinued, we’ll show you the closest match and be honest about how visible the repair will be before we start.
In Southeast Michigan, roof snow melts during the day and refreezes at the cold eaves at night, building an ice dam that pushes water back up under the shingles, especially on homes with long eave lines and thin attic insulation. We repair the resulting leaks and can point out the insulation and ventilation gaps behind them, which matters on larger estate homes.

Alex and the Schoenherr Roofing crew did a really good job on our new roof, which is somewhat complicated with several gables, a portion that is flat and another area with a 2-12 pitch. We weren't able to be present during the work but Project Manager Dan routinely communicated by sending texts and photos. The 350 sq ft flat roof received a custom rebuild, using the EPDM system which created new low slopes with insulating board underneath. The crew did a great job installing a new skylite and installing the Deck-Air vent system for the house's low slopes. The rows of shingles are straight as are the ridge vents and Deck-Air vents. The dumpster was brought in as a large 4 wheeled trailer, so there was no effect on our asphalt, and it was removed promptly. Alex and his crew replaced rotten OSB and 1 x 6 roof boards, and improved a chimney flashing and cricket which has been a problem for years. They were careful of landscaping. Most of the work was done in about 2 days. The new roof looks great and we can certainly recommend Schoenherr Roofing.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
