Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Ada sits just east of Grand Rapids, only about eight to nine miles from our office at 2828 Kraft Avenue SE, roughly a fifteen minute drive. That’s close enough that our crews handle Ada’s estate and river-lot roofs as regular work, without the delay of a contractor coming from farther out.
On large homes set back on wooded lots, a leak can work through a complex roof and expensive interior finishes before anyone notices, so getting a technician up there quickly is what keeps a small problem small. From Grand Rapids we can be looking at an Ada roof within a day or two of your call.
Ada sits where the Thornapple River meets the Grand River, a spot that has drawn people since Rix Robinson set up a fur-trading post here in 1821. The township organized in 1838, and the historic village grew up around the crossing, anchored by the beloved Ada Covered Bridge, an 1867 span still standing over the Thornapple. Since 1959 the community has been home to the world headquarters of Amway, and today Ada is one of the most sought-after addresses in the Grand Rapids area, served by the top-rated Forest Hills schools.
That desirability shows on the rooftops. Ada mixes historic village homes with steep, detailed rooflines, upscale and newer estate homes on wooded lots and river frontage, and country homes tucked into rolling, tree-covered acreage. From ornate older roofs to large custom ones with many wings and valleys, it’s exactly the kind of complex, high-end housing where a roof repair takes real experience, both to find the leak and to fix it so it holds and still looks right.
On the larger custom homes, complexity is the main story. More wings, valleys, dormers, and flashing joints mean more places for water to sneak in, and a leak almost always starts at those transitions, the step flashing where a wall or chimney meets the roof and the valley metal, rather than in the open field of shingles. A single failed joint can send water a long way through a big home before it shows on a ceiling. The historic village homes bring aging flashing and layered re-roofing that hide brittle underlayment underneath.
The wooded, watered setting adds to it. Mature canopy drops limbs and packs leaf litter into valleys, and heavy shade keeps north slopes damp enough to grow moss, while humidity off the Thornapple and Grand Rivers keeps flashing wet longer. West Michigan winters bring heavy lake-effect snow that melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams, forcing water up under the shingles. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and on a high-end Ada home an early inspection protects both the roof and the finishes underneath it.
Repairing a significant home is as much about care as it is about roofing. We match materials and blend repairs so the work holds up and doesn’t stand out from the street, and we treat these properties the way their owners do. Our reputation depends on it, so we do the flashing and valley work correctly and stand behind it. We’ve served Michigan homeowners since 1995, and Ada’s complex, high-end roofs are exactly where that shows.
Ada’s weather puts a lot of stress on roofs, with hot, humid summers and snowy, icy winters. Even a well-built roof can run into trouble under these conditions. High winds and storms may leave shingles cracked or missing, while heavy rain and ice buildup can cause leaks or even structural damage. Clogged gutters add another risk, allowing water to back up and potentially lead to mold.
Catching these problems early can save you from expensive repairs. If you spot any signs of damage, it’s best to call a professional roofer right away before small issues grow into major ones.
Ada’s changing weather has a big impact on how long your roof lasts. The hot summer sun can dry out the asphalt in shingles, making them brittle and more likely to crack. Heavy rain and hail can also cause gutters to clog, which leads to water backing up under the shingles and creating leaks.
Winter brings another set of challenges. The weight of snow and ice can put a lot of stress on your roof, sometimes leading to serious damage. The constant freeze-and-thaw cycle can also harm roofing materials—when ice expands and contracts, it creates cracks that worsen over time.
That’s why regular inspections are so important, especially after extreme weather. They give you the chance to catch small issues early before they turn into costly repairs.
A leaking roof can lead to serious structural damage. Our team:
Uses advanced leak detection methods to find the exact source.
Repairs damaged flashing, cracked shingles, and faulty vents that cause leaks.
Provides long-term protection by sealing and reinforcing problem areas.

Choose Roof Repairs If:
The damage is small, like a few missing shingles.
Your roof is still fairly new and in overall good shape.
A minor leak is coming from one specific, repairable spot.
Consider Roof Replacement If:
Your roof is over 20 years old and showing heavy wear.
Damage covers a large section of the roof.
The cost of repairs is close to what a full replacement would be.
Not sure what’s best? Our experts can walk you through your options and recommend the right solution for your home.
Roof repair costs can change based on several factors. These include the type of roofing material used, how complicated the project is, and how easy it is to access the roof. For instance, asphalt shingles are cheaper than slate or metal roofing, which affects the total cost.
Roofs that are steep or have complex designs need special tools and skills, which may raise labor costs. Knowing these factors helps homeowners make smart choices that match their budgets and goals.
Roofing Material Choices:
Roof Size:
Roof Complexity:
In Michigan, the changing seasons play a big role in roofing projects and their costs. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, which can make roofing unsafe or even impossible at times. Because of this, contractors are often less available and may charge higher rates during harsh weather.
Spring and fall are usually the best times for roofing work. With mild temperatures and less rain, projects can move along more smoothly. This often means more contractor availability and lower overall costs.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, homeowners can plan their roofing projects more effectively, save money, and get the job done faster.
Deciding whether your roof needs a repair or a full replacement brings plenty of benefits. The right choice can save you money over time and give you peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from turning into major problems that may require an expensive replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always less than the cost of a full roof replacement.
Choosing the right service also ensures your roof continues to protect your home, preventing water damage, mold, and other problems caused by a failing roof. Even though DIY fixes may seem simple, it’s best to rely on a professional roofing contractor for honest advice and reliable service.
Remember—investing in your roof means investing in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert guidance.
On Ada’s estate homes, leaks almost never start in the open field of shingles. They start at the transitions, the valleys, the step flashing where a wall or chimney meets the roof, and the boots around vents. Those homes have many wings and joints, so a single failed flashing point can send water a long way before it shows inside. We trace the water to the actual joint, reflash it, and tie the repair into the surrounding roof.
Yes. The older homes around Ada’s historic village have steep, detailed rooflines with aging flashing and valley work where leaks tend to start rather than in the open shingles. We repair those older roofs, reseal the flashing and valleys, and blend the shingle work in so the fix seals without disturbing the home’s historic character.
They do. Ada’s mature canopy drops limbs and packs leaf litter into valleys, and heavy shade keeps north slopes damp enough to grow moss, while humidity off the Thornapple and Grand Rivers keeps flashing and valleys wet longer. On these wooded, river-close lots we pay close attention to the valleys, flashing, and shaded slopes, since that’s where moisture and tree-driven leaks tend to start.
We do our best to make sure it isn’t. We match replacement shingles and materials to the existing roof by color and profile and blend the repair into the surrounding area, which matters on Ada’s high-value homes. If an older or specialty material has been discontinued, we’ll show you the closest match and be honest about how visible the repair will be before we start.
Ada gets the heavy lake-effect snow that comes off Lake Michigan, which loads more weight and moisture on roofs than most of the state sees. On homes with thin attic insulation, that snow melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams that push water back up under the shingles. We repair the resulting leaks and can point out the insulation and ventilation gaps behind them, which matters on large homes with long eave lines.
Our Grand Rapids office is only about eight to nine miles from Ada, roughly a fifteen minute drive. On an active leak we prioritize getting on the roof quickly, making it watertight the same visit when needed, then scheduling the permanent repair. That speed protects both the roof and the interior finishes on these large homes, where water can do costly damage fast.

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
