Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Sterling Heights, MI (2026)
Google roofing contractors around Sterling Heights, and you’ll see a whole lot of stars. Several companies have perfect 5.0 ratings. Others have hundreds of reviews
Allendale sits about thirteen miles west of our office at 2828 Kraft Avenue SE, the closest Schoenherr location, in the center of Ottawa County on M-45. That’s close enough that our crews handle Allendale’s roofs as regular West Michigan work, without the long haul a contractor from farther out would tack on.
In a fast-growing township where new subdivisions and rentals go up alongside older farmhouses, catching a leak early keeps it from spreading into the drywall. We get a technician on the roof quickly, and from Grand Rapids we can be on an Allendale roof within a day or two of your call.
Allendale sits between Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan, organized as a township in 1849 and best known today as the home of Grand Valley State University’s main campus, founded in 1960 and now enrolling well over eighteen thousand students. The Grand River forms the northern and eastern edges of the township. Once a quiet farming community, Allendale is now one of the fastest-growing townships in the region, balancing its student housing and new subdivisions against the farms and rural land that still surround it. For a roofer, that means a heavy mix of new construction and student rentals next to old farmhouses, all on one route through the township.
That growth shapes the roofs. Allendale runs from older farmhouses with detailed, aging rooflines to a heavy wave of newer subdivisions, condos, and student rentals on a shared roof-age timeline, plus rural and Grand River-lot homes. From century-old farmhouse roofs to builder-grade newer ones, it’s a range that keeps our crews working on more than one kind of roof.
The newer subdivisions and rentals are a big share of the repair work. Homes built during the township’s rapid growth went up with builder-grade shingles on a shared timeline, so worn shingles, cracked pipe boots, and tired valley flashing show up street by street. The older farmhouses leak at the details instead, worn chimney and step flashing and tired valley metal, and homes on open and river lots take wind with no windbreak.
West Michigan winters push it further on all of them. Allendale sits in range of the Lake Michigan snowbelt, so heavy snow melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams that force water up under the shingles, especially on older, under-insulated homes. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and because we know both the newer housing and the older farmhouses here, we can give you an honest read on whether your roof needs a repair or is nearing replacement.
We work Allendale regularly, from the neighborhoods around Grand Valley to the farm roads on the edges, and it’s a short run from our Grand Rapids office. That keeps us accountable, and it keeps response times short. We’d rather fix your flashing right the first time than be the name a neighbor warns you about. We’ve served Michigan homeowners since 1995, and a fast-growing township like Allendale is exactly the kind of place that record was built for.
Allendale’s weather can be tough on roofs, with hot, humid summers and long, icy winters. Even a well-built roof can face problems in these conditions. Strong winds and storms may leave shingles cracked or missing, while heavy rain and ice buildup can lead to leaks or even structural damage. Clogged gutters only add to the risk, as water can back up and potentially cause mold.
Spotting these issues early can save you from costly repairs. If you notice any signs of damage, it’s best to call a professional roofer right away before small problems turn into major ones.
Allendale’s shifting weather plays a major role in how long your roof lasts. The hot summer sun can dry out the asphalt in shingles, making them brittle and more likely to crack. Heavy rain and hail can clog gutters, causing water to back up under the shingles and create leaks.
Winter adds its own challenges. The weight of snow and ice can put serious stress on your roof, sometimes leading to significant damage. The constant freeze-and-thaw cycle can also wear down roofing materials—when ice expands and contracts, it creates cracks that get worse over time.
That’s why regular roof inspections are so important, especially after extreme weather. They allow you to spot small problems early before they turn into expensive repairs.
A leaking roof can lead to serious structural damage. Our team:
Uses advanced leak detection methods to find the exact source.
Repairs damaged flashing, cracked shingles, and faulty vents that cause leaks.
Provides long-term protection by sealing and reinforcing problem areas.
Your shingles are your roof’s first line of defense. Over time, they wear out due to age and harsh weather. We:

Choose Roof Repairs If:
The damage is small, like a few missing shingles.
Your roof is still fairly new and in overall good shape.
A minor leak is coming from one specific, repairable spot.
Consider Roof Replacement If:
Your roof is over 20 years old and showing heavy wear.
Damage covers a large section of the roof.
The cost of repairs is close to what a full replacement would be.
Not sure what’s best? Our experts can walk you through your options and recommend the right solution for your home.
Roof repair costs depend on a mix of factors. The type of roofing material, the complexity of the work, and how easy it is to reach the roof all play a big role. For example, asphalt shingles usually cost less than slate or metal roofing, which can drive the overall price up.
If your roof is steep or has a complicated design, it often requires special tools and extra expertise, and that can increase labor costs. Understanding what influences the price helps homeowners plan ahead and choose repairs that fit both their budget and their long-term goals.
Roofing Material Choices:
Roof Size:
Roof Complexity:
In Michigan, the changing seasons play a big role in roofing projects and their costs. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, which can make roofing unsafe or even impossible at times. Because of this, contractors are often less available and may charge higher rates during harsh weather.
Spring and fall are usually the best times for roofing work. With mild temperatures and less rain, projects can move along more smoothly. This often means more contractor availability and lower overall costs.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, homeowners can plan their roofing projects more effectively, save money, and get the job done faster.
Deciding whether your roof needs a repair or a full replacement brings plenty of benefits. The right choice can save you money over time and give you peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from turning into major problems that may require an expensive replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always less than the cost of a full roof replacement.
Choosing the right service also ensures your roof continues to protect your home, preventing water damage, mold, and other problems caused by a failing roof. Even though DIY fixes may seem simple, it’s best to rely on a professional roofing contractor for honest advice and reliable service.
Remember—investing in your roof means investing in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert guidance.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office is only about thirteen miles east of Allendale on M-45, the closest Schoenherr location, so Allendale is regular West Michigan work for us. We schedule repairs with real urgency and can usually get out quickly for a leak or storm damage.
As one of the fastest-growing townships in the region, Allendale has whole subdivisions and rental developments built with builder-grade shingles on a shared timeline, so those roofs reach the end of their shingle life around the same time. When one home starts showing worn shingles and leaks, the neighbors usually aren’t far behind. We can tell you where your roof sits on that clock.
Yes. Beyond the campus and subdivisions, Allendale keeps working farms and rural homes on open and Grand River lots, and we repair those roofs too. Open lots take more wind on exposed slopes with no windbreak, and our crews are equipped to access and repair roofs in those rural conditions from our Grand Rapids base.
It does. Allendale sits in range of the Lake Michigan snowbelt between Grand Rapids and the lake, so it sees heavier snow than areas farther inland. On homes with thin attic insulation, that snow melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams that push water back up under the shingles. We repair the resulting leaks and can point out the insulation and ventilation gaps behind them.
Yes. Allendale has a lot of student rentals and multi-unit housing near Grand Valley, and we repair those roofs alongside single-family homes. We trace the leak to its actual source, whether it’s worn flashing, a failed boot, or storm-lifted shingles, and repair it so it seals, and we can coordinate with owners managing several units.
Our Grand Rapids office is only about thirteen miles east of Allendale on M-45, so it’s a short run for us. For an active leak we prioritize getting on the roof quickly, sealing it the same visit when needed, then scheduling the permanent repair.

Alex and the Schoenherr Roofing crew did a really good job on our new roof, which is somewhat complicated with several gables, a portion that is flat and another area with a 2-12 pitch. We weren't able to be present during the work but Project Manager Dan routinely communicated by sending texts and photos. The 350 sq ft flat roof received a custom rebuild, using the EPDM system which created new low slopes with insulating board underneath. The crew did a great job installing a new skylite and installing the Deck-Air vent system for the house's low slopes. The rows of shingles are straight as are the ridge vents and Deck-Air vents. The dumpster was brought in as a large 4 wheeled trailer, so there was no effect on our asphalt, and it was removed promptly. Alex and his crew replaced rotten OSB and 1 x 6 roof boards, and improved a chimney flashing and cricket which has been a problem for years. They were careful of landscaping. Most of the work was done in about 2 days. The new roof looks great and we can certainly recommend Schoenherr Roofing.Posted on Google![]()

I had a top notch experience with this company. I was communicated with every step of the way. I had to have all new wood as well as shingles and doubted that it would be finished in one day, but it was. They also did a stellar clean-up job at the end. Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
