Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies

Metamora sits northwest of our Romeo headquarters at 102 W St Clair Street, about eighteen to twenty miles out into the rolling hills of Lapeer County. It’s a longer run than our closest towns, but well within our reach, and we make the drive without pushing Metamora to the back of the schedule. A leak damages an old roof just as fast out in horse country as it does anywhere else.
On the historic village homes and the large estate properties that define Metamora, water can work through original framing or a complex roofline before it ever shows inside. Getting a technician on the roof quickly is what keeps a minor repair from becoming a soaked ceiling, and being headquartered nearby in Romeo is why we can still get out to Metamora promptly.
Metamora is one of the most distinctive small communities in the region, a historic village of under 600 people whose name means among the hills. Settled in 1843 and incorporated in 1885, it sits on high, rolling ground, with elevations climbing past a thousand feet, and it has held tight to its country traditions. The Metamora Crossroads Historic District and the landmark White Horse Inn anchor the village, while the surrounding countryside is famous horse country, home to the Metamora Hunt, an equestrian foxhunting tradition dating to 1928.
That character shapes the roofs. Metamora mixes preserved 19th-century village homes with steep, detailed rooflines, sprawling equestrian estates with large and complex roofs, homes around Lake Metamora, and farmhouses on wooded, rolling acreage. From ornate historic roofs to big estate ones with many wings and valleys, it’s exactly the kind of varied, high-end and historic housing where a roof repair takes real experience.
On the historic village homes, leaks start at the details rather than the open shingles, worn chimney and step flashing and tired valley metal, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment underneath. On the larger estate homes, complexity is the story: more wings, valleys, dormers, and flashing joints mean more places for water to sneak in, and a single failed joint can send water a long way before it shows on a ceiling.
The open, hilly, wooded setting adds to it. Homes on exposed high ground and open estates take wind with no windbreak, which lifts shingles and loosens ridge caps, while wooded lots drop limbs and pack leaf litter into valleys and keep shaded slopes damp. Michigan’s freeze-thaw winters pry at loose joints and drive ice dams onto the eaves. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and a quick look after a big storm is the cheapest insurance a Metamora homeowner can buy.
Out in a close-knit community like Metamora, a contractor’s name gets around fast, because neighbors talk and good roofers who make the trip are worth knowing. We’d rather earn that word-of-mouth by fixing the roof correctly, whether it’s a historic village home or a horse-country estate, than lose it by cutting a corner out in the hills. That’s the standard we’ve held from our Romeo base since 1995, however far the drive.
Roof issues are never convenient, but maintaining your roof is essential to protecting your home. At Schoenherr Roofing, we’re only a phone call away. Determining whether you need a repair or full replacement starts with assessing the damage. Factors like the roofing material, age, and severity of the issue all play a role in the right solution.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we conduct detailed inspections on all roof types, including asphalt shingles and metal systems. We identify both visible damage like missing shingles and hidden issues such as attic leaks. Our experienced team delivers customized solutions to restore your roof’s strength and reliability.
Metamora, MI faces extreme seasonal weather, from hot summers to harsh, snowy winters, which can take a toll on your roof—especially those made with common materials like asphalt shingles.
Strong winds can lift or tear off shingles, exposing your roof to potential leaks. During winter, heavy snow buildup often causes ice dams, which block drainage and allow water to enter your home.
Delaying repairs can lead to more expensive damage or even a full roof replacement. Taking care of issues early helps protect your home and reduce long-term costs.
Unsure when it’s time to contact a professional roofer? Some signs are clear, while others are less noticeable. Missing, cracked, or curling shingles typically indicate wear. Water stains on ceilings or walls could point to a leak. A sagging roofline might suggest structural issues, and granule buildup in gutters usually means your shingles are aging. Moss or algae growth can signal trapped moisture. If your asphalt shingle roof is nearing 20–25 years old, it’s wise to schedule an inspection to evaluate its remaining life.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we provide thorough roof repair services customized to meet each homeowner’s needs. We go beyond quick fixes, aiming to strengthen your roof and deliver lasting protection.
Our team handles everything from locating and repairing leaks to replacing damaged shingles and maintaining your roof’s overall health. We use top-grade materials from Atlas or Owens Corning and follow trusted techniques to ensure long-term, reliable results.
A roof leak can quickly lead to significant damage if left unchecked. At Schoenherr Roofing, we understand the importance of identifying and repairing leaks early to prevent larger issues.
Our team conducts thorough inspections of your attic, roof decking, and other key areas to pinpoint the exact source of the leak. We focus on resolving the root cause—not just covering up the symptoms—to ensure a durable, effective repair.

Yes. Metamora is about eighteen to twenty miles from our Romeo headquarters, out in the hills of Lapeer County, and we cover it. A lot of Metamora homeowners get told a repair has to wait because they’re out in horse country. We schedule Metamora repairs with real urgency, because a leak damages a roof just as fast out here, and being based in nearby Romeo is what lets us still get there promptly.
Yes. Metamora’s horse-country estates often have large, complex roofs with many wings, dormers, valleys, and flashing joints where leaks tend to start rather than in the open shingles. Our crews are set up for that work, tracing the water to the actual joint, reflashing it, and blending the repair into the existing roof so it seals and holds on a high-end home.
Yes. The preserved 19th-century homes in Metamora’s historic crossroads district have steep, detailed rooflines with aging flashing and valley work where leaks usually begin. We repair those older roofs, reseal the flashing and valleys, and blend the shingle work in so the fix seals without disturbing the home’s historic character.
It can. Metamora sits on high, rolling ground, so homes on exposed hilltops and open estates take wind with no windbreak, which lifts and tears shingles and loosens ridge caps. After a storm we look for missing and creased shingles, exposed nail heads, and damaged flashing, then make the roof watertight and repair the affected sections before water gets into the deck.
They can. Homes near Lake Metamora sit in more humidity, which keeps flashing, valleys, and shaded north slopes damp longer and speeds up corrosion and moss growth at the roof’s weak points. On lake-area Metamora homes we inspect the valley metal and flashing closely, since that’s where slow, moisture-driven leaks tend to begin.
Because Metamora is a longer drive from Romeo, we plan the routing efficiently, but we don’t send it to the back of the line. For an active leak we prioritize getting the roof watertight quickly, then set the permanent repair. The extra miles change how we schedule the trip, not whether Metamora homeowners get taken care of promptly.

Our experience with Schoenherr Roofing has been very pleasant. Our sales consultant, Nate and project manager, Josh H. were both professional and personable. We were very impressed with the excellent communication by Josh before, during, and after our project. The cleanup the roofing crew did was also outstanding. We love our new roof!Posted on Google![]()

I would 100% recommend them to anyone interested in their services! They had great communication skills. They kept us updated with scheduling and progress pictures of what was completed. One of the days we were surprised with a terrible storm that popped up in the middle of the tear off/install. Even with the 50+ mph winds and extreme rain the guys successfully tarped off our house with no leaks! Also, they're very reasonably priced and went to great lengths to protect our landscape. Thanks for a great experience!Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
