Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
East Grand Rapids sits directly against Grand Rapids, only about four to five miles from our office at 2828 Kraft Avenue SE, often a ten minute drive. That puts East Grand Rapids roofs about as close to local work as we do, so a call about a ceiling stain doesn’t turn into a week of waiting.
In an established, tightly built suburb of older homes, catching a leak early keeps it from working into the walls. Getting a technician on the roof quickly is what makes the difference, and from Grand Rapids we can be on an East Grand Rapids roof within a day or two of your call.
East Grand Rapids is one of the oldest and most established suburbs in Kent County, first settled in the early 1830s by the Reed family and centered on Reeds Lake. By the 1870s the lake was a popular summer destination, drawing steamboats and a lakeside pavilion, and the community grew from resort to residential, voting to form a village in 1891 and incorporating as a city in 1926. Today it’s known for its walkable Gaslight Village downtown, its nationally ranked schools, and some of the highest home values in the region.
That history shaped the roofs. East Grand Rapids is full of well-kept early-1900s and mid-century homes with steep, detailed rooflines, mixed with lakefront homes around Reeds Lake and later custom builds, all on tightly spaced, tree-lined lots. From ornate older roofs to complex lakefront ones, it’s exactly the kind of established, high-value housing where a careful roof repair matters, both to stop the leak and to keep the work invisible from the street.
On the older homes near Gaslight Village and throughout the city, leaks start at the details rather than the open shingles. Worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing at the many wall-to-roof transitions, and tired valley metal are the classic failure points, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment underneath. On a home approaching or past a century old, water can travel through original framing before it shows on a ceiling.
The setting adds to it. The mature tree canopy that lines these streets drops limbs and packs leaf litter into valleys and keeps shaded slopes damp enough to grow moss, while homes around Reeds Lake take wind and humidity off the water. West Michigan winters bring heavy lake-effect snow that melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams, forcing water up under the shingles on these older, sometimes under-insulated homes. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and on a high-value East Grand Rapids home an early inspection protects both the roof and the finishes underneath it.
In an established community where homes are both valuable and closely watched, our reputation rides on doing the work right and making the repair blend in. That keeps us accountable. We match materials, do the flashing and valley work correctly, and stand behind it. We’ve served Michigan homeowners since 1995, and East Grand Rapids is exactly the kind of place where careful work shows.
East Grand Rapids’ weather puts a lot of strain on roofs. Hot, humid summers and long, icy winters can wear down even the strongest roofing systems. Strong winds and storms can crack or tear away shingles, while heavy rain and ice buildup often lead to leaks or even structural damage. Clogged gutters only add to the problem, backing up water and increasing the risk of mold.
Catching these issues early can help you avoid expensive repairs. If you notice any signs of damage, the smartest step is to call a professional roofer right away—before a small problem grows into a major one.
East Grand Rapids’ changing weather puts a lot of pressure on how long a roof lasts. The hot summer sun can dry out the asphalt in shingles, making them brittle and more likely to crack. Heavy rain and hail can clog gutters, forcing water to back up under the shingles and cause leaks.
Winter adds another layer of challenges. The weight of snow and ice can put serious stress on your roof, sometimes leading to major damage. On top of that, the constant freeze-and-thaw cycle wears down roofing materials—when ice expands and contracts, it creates cracks that only get worse over time.
That’s why regular roof inspections are so important, especially after extreme weather. They give you the chance to catch small issues early before they grow into costly repairs.

Choose Roof Repairs If:
The damage is minor, such as a few missing shingles
Your roof is still relatively new and in good condition overall
A small leak is coming from one specific, repairable area
Consider Roof Replacement If:
Your roof is more than 20 years old and showing significant wear
Damage spreads across a large portion of the roof
Repair costs are nearly as high as a full replacement
Not sure which option is right for you? Our experts will guide you through the choices and recommend the best solution for your home.
Roof repair costs can change based on a few important factors. The roofing material, the complexity of the project, and even how easy it is to access the roof all play a role in the final price. Asphalt shingles are usually the most affordable choice, while slate or metal roofing can push the cost higher.
Roofs that are steep or have complex designs often need specialized tools and skilled labor, which can also increase expenses. Understanding these factors gives homeowners a clearer picture of what to expect, making it easier to plan ahead and choose repairs that fit both their budget and long-term goals.
Roofing Material Choices:
Roof Size:
Larger roofs need more materials, which raises the overall cost.
Extra shingles, underlayment, and other components add to the expense.
Roof Complexity:
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or detailed designs take more time and skilled labor.
The added complexity increases both material and labor costs.
In Michigan, seasonal changes have a big impact on roofing projects and what they cost. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures that can make roofing unsafe—or sometimes impossible. During these months, contractors are harder to book and may charge more because of the added difficulty.
Spring and fall are usually the best times for roofing work. Mild temperatures and lighter rainfall let projects move along more smoothly, often leading to better contractor availability and lower overall costs.
By planning around these seasonal factors, homeowners can schedule roofing projects at the right time, save money, and ensure the work is completed more efficiently.
Deciding whether your roof needs a repair or a full replacement brings plenty of benefits. The right choice can save you money over time and give you peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from turning into major problems that may require an expensive replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always less than the cost of a full roof replacement.
Choosing the right service ensures your roof continues to protect your home, preventing water damage, mold, and other issues that come with a failing roof. While DIY repairs may seem simple, it’s always smarter to rely on a professional roofing contractor for honest advice and dependable service.
Remember—caring for your roof is an investment in your home’s value and your peace of mind. Worried about your roof? Contact Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert guidance.
On the city’s early-1900s and mid-century homes, leaks usually trace back to worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing where walls meet the roof, and tired valley metal, not the open field of shingles. Decades of re-roofing can also leave layered materials and brittle underlayment. We find the actual entry point and repair it rather than patching the stain below it, and blend the shingle work into the existing roof.
They do. Homes around Reeds Lake take wind and humidity off the open water, which lifts shingles and loosens ridge caps and keeps flashing and shaded slopes damp enough to grow moss. On lakefront East Grand Rapids roofs we check the wind-facing slopes, ridge, and flashing first, since that’s where the water exposure does its damage.
The tree-lined streets that give East Grand Rapids its character also drop limbs onto roofs in wind, pack leaf litter into valleys, and keep shaded north slopes damp enough to grow moss that loosens shingle edges. We clear and repair that tree and moss damage and can point out canopy worth trimming back from the roof before it causes the next leak.
In most cases, yes. We blend replacement shingles and materials into the surrounding roof by color and profile so a repair doesn’t stand out from the street, which matters on East Grand Rapids’ well-kept historic and high-value homes. If an older or specialty material has been discontinued, we’ll show you the closest match and be upfront about how visible the repair will be.
East Grand Rapids gets the heavy lake-effect snow that rolls off Lake Michigan, and on older homes with thin attic insulation and limited ventilation, heat escapes into the attic, melts the roof snow, and it refreezes at the cold eaves into an ice dam that forces water back up under the shingles. We repair the leaks those dams cause and can point out the insulation and ventilation gaps letting them form.
Our Grand Rapids office is only about four to five miles from East Grand Rapids, often a ten minute drive, since the two share a border. That makes East Grand Rapids roofs close to local work for us, which keeps response times short for leaks and storm damage on these established homes.

They did a complete removal of shingles and roof boards that were in bad shape. The estimate was good for 10 days, so no pressure tactics. The work was done efficiently and in one day. The crew were very good and did a good cleanup job.Posted on Google![]()

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
