Goodrich sits north of Rochester, about twenty miles up in southern Genesee County. It’s a longer run than our closer towns, but well within the area we cover, and we make the drive without pushing Goodrich to the back of the schedule. A leak damages a roof just as fast out here as anywhere else.
On the older village homes and the farmhouses and rural properties around Goodrich, water can work through original framing before it ever shows inside, and on homes spread across acres there’s no neighbor right next door to spot a problem starting. We plan the trip up efficiently and get a technician on the roof to trace the leak quickly.
Goodrich is a small, historic village in Atlas Township, in the rolling country of southern Genesee County between Grand Blanc and Ortonville. It grew up around its mill pond on Kearsley Creek, where early mills powered the settlement the Goodrich family helped establish, and that mill pond still sits at the heart of the village today. Goodrich has stayed a small, close-knit rural community, known for its schools and its country character, rather than growing into a dense suburb. For a roofer, that means mostly older and rural homes on open ground, taking the full force of the wind with no windbreak to slow it.
That rural character shapes the roofs. Goodrich runs from older village homes with detailed rooflines to farmhouses and rural homes on open and wooded lots, plus some newer country builds, rather than uniform subdivisions. From century-old roofs to open-country farmhouses, it’s exactly the kind of older, exposed, spread-out housing where a roof repair takes real experience and where getting a roofer to make the trip is half the battle.
The open, wooded country setting is a big part of the story. Farmhouses and homes on open lots take wind with no windbreak, so we find lifted shingles and loosened ridge caps after storms, and a single storm can mark several properties at once. Wooded lots drop limbs and pack leaf litter into valleys and keep shaded north slopes damp, and homes near the mill pond hold extra humidity around the flashing. The older village homes and farmhouses leak at the details, worn chimney and step flashing and tired valley metal, over brittle, layered underlayment.
Southeast Michigan’s freeze-thaw winters push it further. Snow melts during the day and refreezes at night, prying at loose flashing and building ice dams at the eaves of older, under-insulated homes that force water back up under the shingles. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and a quick inspection after a big storm is the cheapest insurance a Goodrich homeowner can buy.
Out in a small rural village like Goodrich, a contractor’s name gets around fast, because neighbors talk and there aren’t many roofers who make the trip. We’d rather earn that word-of-mouth by fixing the roof correctly than lose it by cutting a corner on a farmhouse out in the country. That’s the standard we’ve held since 1995, however far the drive.
Roof issues can be overwhelming, but a strong roof is key to protecting your home. Schoenherr Roofing provides thorough inspections, evaluating your roof’s material, age, and damage to determine the right repair approach.
We handle all roof types, including shingle and metal. Our team spots visible damage like missing shingles and uncovers hidden problems like attic leaks. Then we build a repair plan to fix the issues and reinforce your roof for long-term durability.
Goodrich’s seasonal shifts—from summer heat to winter frost—can weaken roofing materials, especially asphalt shingles.
Strong winds can tear or lift shingles, exposing your roof to water damage. In colder months, snow buildup and ice dams may block drainage and cause leaks or moisture inside your home.
Watch for signs like missing shingles, water stains, or granules in gutters. Taking care of these issues early can help prevent bigger repairs and extend your roof’s lifespan.
Unsure if it’s time to call a roofer? Look for missing, cracked, or curled shingles. Water stains on ceilings or walls can indicate a leak, and a sagging roofline may point to structural issues. Shingle granules in your gutters are a sign of wear. Moss or algae growth suggests trapped moisture. If your asphalt roof is 20–25 years old, it’s wise to get a professional inspection to check its condition and lifespan.
At Schoenherr Roofing, our roof repair services are tailored to your home’s specific needs. We go beyond quick fixes, aiming to restore your roof’s strength and ensure lasting protection.
We take care of everything from leak detection to shingle replacement and routine maintenance. With reliable materials from Atlas and Owens Corning, we follow industry standards to ensure durable, long-lasting repairs.

Yes. Goodrich is about twenty miles north of our Rochester office, in southern Genesee County, and we cover it. A Goodrich roof leak gets scheduled with real urgency, because water damages a country roof just as fast as a city one, and we plan the trip up efficiently rather than letting the distance become a delay.
Yes. Goodrich and the surrounding Atlas Township are largely farmhouses and rural homes on open and wooded lots, and that’s much of what we repair out here. Those properties take more wind on exposed roofs and more tree debris on shaded ones, and our crews are equipped to access and repair roofs in rural conditions from our Rochester base.
They can. Homes close to the mill pond and Kearsley Creek sit in more humidity, which keeps flashing, valleys, and shaded north slopes damp longer and speeds up corrosion and moss growth at the roof’s weak points. On pond-close Goodrich homes we inspect the valley metal and flashing closely, since that’s where slow, moisture-driven leaks tend to begin.
On Goodrich’s older village homes and farmhouses, leaks usually trace back to worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing, and tired valley metal rather than the open field of shingles, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment underneath. We trace the leak to the real entry point and repair it rather than patching the stain below it, so the fix actually stops the water.
In Southeast Michigan, roof snow melts during the day and refreezes at the cold eaves at night, building an ice dam that pushes water back up under the shingles, especially on older, under-insulated farmhouses. On wooded lots, heavy shade keeps snow on the roof longer, which can make it worse. We repair the leaks and flag the insulation and ventilation gaps behind them.
Because Goodrich is a longer drive up into Genesee County, we plan the routing efficiently, but we don’t send it to the back of the line. For an active leak we prioritize getting the roof watertight quickly, then set the permanent repair. The extra miles change how we schedule the trip, not whether Goodrich homeowners get taken care of promptly.

Schoenherr Roofing did a complete roof replacement on our house: 2,800 s.f. Colonial, 39 “squares,” in Troy, which was finished, on time, in 1.5 days. From the materials delivery company, to the project manager’s (PM) pre-job contacts, to the on-site workers, everyone was friendly, helpful, and easy to deal with. Although the noise WAS horrific, we knew it would be!! The finished roof looks awesome. The PM did a post-job inspection the next day to address any remaining nails on the ground (not many), and picked up excess materials not used. We are extremely satisfied with Schoenherr Roofing and would highly recommend them for a total roof replacement!Posted on Google![]()

True teamwork from material delivery to clean-up. Ben Vander-Starre started things with an honest inspection, pointing out what needed repair versus what looked bad but did not. He showed us remedies, like using DeckAir to improve ventilation in tricky areas. No pressure, and no need to “sign today.” Josh H. managed the project. He enthusiastically responded to my many questions, met concerns with solutions and worked closely with the crew leader Yefran. Ours was a larger job, complicated by a two-layer tear-off and some rain delays. They had to hustle. Yefran kept the crew moving, pitching-in and lending expertise along the way. When some flashing looked poorly finished, I pointed it out to Josh and Yefran; they understood my concern and were on it. After pulling it down and refabricating the pieces, it now looks intentional to the space. Nice work Schoenherr team. Our new roof looks great.Posted on Google![]()

Schoenner Roofing completed a full roof replacement for us, the experience was great. Our salesman Seth was professional and friendly, he completed a full inspection with video before sitting down with us to go over what we needed and what options we had. There was no high pressure sales and we felt comfortable. The team kept us up to date during permitting process and double checked our material choices with us. Our project manager Dan Blunden reached out to introduce himself early in the process. Dan came out to the house to cover the process with us and assure all of the material was on site the day before the crew came out. Dan worked closely with us to keep us up to date on project progress throughout, he provided pictures during the process, which was greatly appreciated. The crew was great, friendly and cleaned the grounds throughout the day. Our crew chief also kept us updated. Dan came back after the job was done and inspected the whole roof to assure it was done right, and proveded pictures of the detail you can't see from the ground. Would highly recommend Schoenner, they did a great job, were professional, and friendly.Posted on Google![]()

I needed a roof replacement and called several local companies for quotes. I decided to hire Schoenherr roofing for a number of factors: 1) The salesman was very thorough in the initial roof inspection and explained what was needed in my new roof and what my current roof lacked. He went over the options in great detail without pressure, giving me time to analyze other bids. 2) Schoenherr roofing offered very competitive pricing and their workmanship warranty is outstanding compared to other contractors and transferable to future owners if your house is sold. 3) Being in the construction business myself, I know the importance of proper communication regarding scheduling, delivery, and timing of the project. Even when there was a slight delay due a previous job going a day longer than expected due to weather(which often happens in the industry), communication about the scheduling was immediate and thorough. 4) I had other family members and friends also use Schoenherr roofing in the past 3 years and was very impressed with how they percieved their new roof experience with them. I was impressed with the workmanship, looks, and cleanliness when their job was completed. 5) The crew foreman was very thorough and knowledgeable during my installation explaining the process. The crew manager was interested how the project was going and letting me know if there were any unforseens (damaged lumber) during the rip off and installation. I had a very positive experience with them. My new roof looks fantastic! I will gladly recommend them to anyone looking for a roofing contractor in the future!Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
