Top 15 Highest Rated Roofers Serving Troy, MI (2026)
Finding a roofer in Troy isn’t exactly difficult. Figuring out which one you actually want working on your house is another story. There are companies
Kent City sits about twenty-two miles northwest of our office at 2828 Kraft Avenue SE, the closest Schoenherr location, out on the Fruit Ridge in northwest Kent County. It’s a small farm village we cover as part of our West Michigan area, so a Kent City roof problem gets real attention rather than sitting because it’s out in the country.
On the farmhouses and older village homes that make up Kent City, water can work through original framing before it ever shows inside. We plan the trip out efficiently and get a technician on the roof to trace the leak quickly, because the sooner we do, the smaller and cheaper the repair stays.
Kent City is a small village in the farm country of northwest Kent County, set on the Fruit Ridge among the apple and peach orchards that have defined this high, well-drained ground for generations. It has stayed a close-knit rural community anchored by its schools and its farms, the kind of place surrounded by open orchard land where families have worked the same ground for decades. That kind of long ownership usually means a roof has been patched and re-covered more than once, and those old layers are often where the next leak hides.
That rural character shapes the roofs. Kent City is mostly older village homes and farmhouses on open and wooded lots, mixed with newer country builds, rather than uniform subdivisions. From century-old farmhouses to modern country homes, it’s exactly the kind of spread-out rural housing where getting a roofer to make the trip is half the battle, and where roof repair takes real experience with older, exposed homes.
The open orchard-country setting is the main story here. Farmhouses and homes on open lots take wind with no windbreak, so we find lifted shingles and loosened ridge caps after storms, and a single storm can mark several properties across the open ridge at once. Wooded lots collect falling limbs and leaf litter in their valleys and grow moss on shaded north slopes.
The older village homes and farmhouses bring the classic problems of aging homes, worn chimney and step flashing and tired valley metal where the real leaks start, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment underneath. Kent City sits in the Lake Michigan snowbelt, so heavy snow melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and a quick inspection after a big storm is the cheapest insurance a Kent City homeowner can buy.
Out in a small farm village like Kent City, a contractor’s name gets around fast, because neighbors talk and there aren’t many roofers who make the trip. We’d rather earn that word-of-mouth by fixing the roof correctly than lose it by cutting a corner on a farmhouse out in the country. That’s the standard we’ve held since 1995, however far the drive.
Kent City’s weather takes a heavy toll on roofs. Hot, humid summers and long, icy winters can wear down even the strongest roofing systems. Strong winds and storms may crack or tear off shingles, while heavy rain and ice buildup often cause leaks or structural damage. Clogged gutters make matters worse, leading to water backup and a higher risk of mold.
Catching these problems early can save you from expensive repairs. If you notice any signs of damage, the best step is to call a professional roofer right away—before a small issue turns into a big one.
Kent City’s weather can be tough on roofs. In the summer, the hot sun dries out asphalt shingles, making them brittle and more likely to crack. Heavy rain or hail can clog gutters, which pushes water under the shingles and leads to leaks.
Winter adds even greater challenges. The weight of snow and ice puts significant stress on your roof and can cause major damage. On top of that, the freeze-and-thaw cycle makes ice expand and contract, creating cracks that get worse over time.
That’s why regular roof inspections are so important, especially after severe weather. They give you the chance to catch small problems early and fix them before they turn into costly repairs.

Choose Roof Repairs If:
The damage is minor, such as a few missing shingles
Your roof is still relatively new and in good overall condition
A small leak is coming from a single, repairable area
Consider Roof Replacement If:
Your roof is more than 20 years old and showing significant wear
Damage affects a large portion of the roof
The cost of repairs is nearly the same as a full replacement
Not sure which option is right for you? Our experts will guide you through the choices and recommend the best solution for your home.
The cost of roof repair depends on several factors. The type of roofing material, the difficulty of the project, and how accessible the roof is all play a role. Asphalt shingles are generally the most affordable option, while slate or metal tends to raise the overall cost.
If a roof is steep or has a complex design, it often requires specialized tools and skilled labor, which can add to the expense. Understanding these factors gives homeowners a clearer picture of what to expect, making it easier to plan repairs that fit both their budget and long-term goals.
Roofing Material Choices
Asphalt shingles – A budget-friendly option that’s widely used.
Slate or tile – Higher cost but extremely durable.
Knowing the cost differences helps homeowners pick the material that best fits their budget.
Roof Size
Larger roofs need more materials, which raises the overall price.
Extra shingles, underlayment, and other components all add to the expense.
Roof Complexity
Roofs with multiple slopes, dormers, or detailed designs take more time and skill to complete.
The added complexity drives up both material and labor costs.
In Michigan, the seasons have a big impact on roofing projects and their costs. Winter brings snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, which make roofing work challenging and sometimes unsafe. Because of this, contractors are often less available and may charge higher rates during harsh weather.
Spring and fall are generally the best times to schedule roofing. Mild temperatures and reduced rainfall allow projects to move along more smoothly, which usually means better contractor availability and lower overall costs.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, homeowners can save money, avoid delays, and get their roofing projects completed more efficiently.
Deciding whether your roof needs a repair or a full replacement brings plenty of benefits. The right choice can save you money over time and give you peace of mind. Quick repairs can stop small issues from turning into major problems that may require an expensive replacement. While repair costs vary depending on the damage, they’re almost always less than the cost of a full roof replacement.
Picking the right service helps your roof keep doing its job—protecting your home from water damage, mold, and other costly issues that come with a failing roof. While DIY fixes might look easy, it’s always smarter to trust a professional roofing contractor for honest advice and dependable service.
Remember, taking care of your roof is an investment in both your home’s value and your peace of mind. Concerned about your roof? Reach out to Schoenherr Roofing today for a free inspection and expert guidance.
Yes. Our Grand Rapids office is the closest Schoenherr location to Kent City, about twenty-two miles southeast, and we cover this part of the rural Fruit Ridge. A Kent City roof leak gets scheduled with real urgency, because water damages a country roof just as fast as a city one, and we plan the trip out efficiently rather than letting the distance become a delay.
Yes. Kent City is orchard and farm country, and we regularly repair farmhouses and rural homes on open and wooded lots. Those properties take more wind on exposed roofs and more tree debris on shaded ones, and our crews are equipped to access and repair roofs in rural conditions from our Grand Rapids base.
On older Kent City farmhouses, leaks usually trace back to worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing, and tired valley metal rather than the open field of shingles, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment underneath. We trace the leak to the real entry point and repair it rather than patching the stain below it, so the fix actually stops the water.
Homes on the open Fruit Ridge around Kent City take wind with no windbreak to slow it down, which lifts and tears shingles, loosens ridge caps, and can mark several open-country properties in a single storm. After a storm we look for missing and creased shingles, exposed nail heads, and damaged flashing, then make the roof watertight and repair the affected sections before water gets into the deck.
It does. Kent City sits on the Fruit Ridge in the Lake Michigan snowbelt, so it sees heavier snow than areas farther inland. On older, under-insulated farmhouses that snow melts and refreezes at the eaves into ice dams that push water back up under the shingles. We repair the resulting leaks and can point out the insulation and ventilation gaps that let the dams form.
Our Grand Rapids office is about twenty-two miles from Kent City. We plan rural trips efficiently, so the distance shapes our routing rather than delaying the work. For an active leak we prioritize getting the roof watertight quickly, then schedule the permanent repair, so a Kent City homeowner isn’t left waiting.

I contacted Schoenherr Roofing for an estimated on replacing my roof. They sent David Schafer to my residence. Dave explained his process. He entered the attic and videoed while speaking the issues he sees. He then got on my roof and videoed everything. I also had the shed looked at. When Dave was completed, he had a video that I could see. His findings and video explaining everything was great. Dave was very professional, polite and courteous. He answered all my questions. He came prepared with what he needed to do his job. Today we happy our roof was replaced by Schoenherr Roofing! They replaced the shingles on the house, garage and shed. On the house, all wood decking was replaced with a few on the garage. Ridge vent installed on the house and garage. Crew was here early as schedule and on time. I watched this five man crew work constantly with a break for lunch. My home is a two story colonial. This crew had to carry all the lumber and shingles to the top of the roof. Shingles carried up to top of the garage as. The crew leader (Luis) was very polite. He took pictures throughout sending them to his boss Chad. Chad then forward them to me to keep me up to date. Even views from the top of the roof where I couldn’t see. The crew did an outstanding job cleaning the area upon completion. All of this work by 5 men in one day (12 hrs). I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank You to everyone involved a Schoenherr Roofing!!Posted on Google![]()

After doing some research and sifting through high presdure sales tactics from other vendors, i chose Schoenherr roofing. All of their laborers are in house employees versus 3rd party contractors. After commiting they assigned several people and kept me in the loop. During the tear out and install i was given pictoral updates on every aspect of the job, their pricing was in line with their competitors and they used state of the art materials designed for specific aspects versus 1 shingle does all. Best of all was material usage had no hidden addons and we stayed within budget, i believe 200 Lft of planking was in the quote and we used 160. No upsell on anything or special pricing tiers of quality, i got app. 1600 sqft of tier 3 impact shingled roof for $15,000.00 With drip edge and needed planking and the latest in ventilation technology. You can see in one picture the original roof in poor shape.Posted on Google![]()

Their sales rep, Leo, is helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. He is clearly dedicated to his customers and is someone I could trust to provide me with an honest understanding of the whole project and its pricing. I received 5 different quotes from various local and chain roofing contractors. Schoenherr Roofing is slightly more expensive than average but their services, from start to finish, were above average. I was kept in the loop regarding every step of the process which included financing, a flexible appointment time, a pre-install and post-install inspection, material delivery, install, and clean-up. At every step they were prompt and thorough. The crew was extremely hard working and were able to set up, replace a house and garage roof, clean, and pack up in about 12 hours despite the heat. They provided me with real-time photos of their work as each step of the install was completed, which is something all construction contractors should take note of. I am happy that I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind I now have in a roof with a strong labor and material warranty installed by an experienced local business.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
