Top 15 Highest-Rated Roofers Serving Rochester Hills, MI (2026)
You can learn quite a bit about a roofing company before ever picking up the phone. A quick Google search might turn up hundreds of
St. Clair Shores sits southeast of our Sterling Heights office at 42850 Schoenherr Road, roughly eight to nine miles away. That’s about a twenty minute drive down toward the lake, close enough that our crews handle the city’s canal-front and lakefront roofs without the long haul you’d get from a contractor coming out of another part of the metro.
On homes this close to open water, wind and moisture do damage fast, so getting a technician on the roof quickly is what keeps a lifted shingle from becoming a soaked ceiling. From Sterling Heights we can usually be on a St. Clair Shores roof within a day or two of your call, which matters when the next lake storm is never far off.
St. Clair Shores runs right along the western shore of Lake St. Clair, and the water shapes everything about it. The city has around fourteen miles of canals, most of them in the Nautical Mile district along Jefferson between Nine and Ten Mile, where marinas, boat dealers, and lakefront homes line the water. Settled by French and German families as far back as the early 1700s, it stayed rural until the postwar boom, when the population jumped from about 4,000 in 1940 to nearly 20,000 by 1950, and the city incorporated in 1951.
That history set the roofs. Most of St. Clair Shores filled in with 1950s and 60s ranches and bungalows built within a short span of years, so whole neighborhoods share one roof-age timeline. Along the canals and the lakefront sit larger and rebuilt homes with more complex rooflines. Two kinds of housing, one lake city, and each takes the weather in its own way.
Open water is hard on a roof. Wind coming straight off Lake St. Clair with no windbreak lifts shingles and loosens ridge caps, and canal-front homes catch it from more than one direction. Constant humidity off the lake and the canals keeps north-facing and shaded slopes damp, which is why we find moss, algae streaking, and early granule loss on those roofs first.
The postwar housing stock adds its own problems. Those 1950s and 60s ranches have low-slope roofs that shed water slowly, so worn shingles, cracked pipe boots, and tired valley flashing turn into leaks faster than they would on a steep roof. Michigan’s freeze-thaw winters bring ice dams to the eaves of under-insulated homes, forcing water back up under the shingles. Most of it is repairable when it’s caught early, and because so many neighboring homes share the same roof age, we can give you an honest read on whether yours has years left or is close enough to replacement that repairs are only buying time.
Our crews work the Shores year round, and in a lake community this tight, word travels quick when a roofer does good work or cuts a corner. That keeps us accountable. We’d rather fix your flashing right the first time than be the name talked about down at the Nautical Mile. Since 1995 we’ve built this business on repairs that hold, and St. Clair Shores is exactly the kind of place that matters most.
Roof problems rarely wait for the right moment—but quick action is key to protecting your home. At Schoenherr Roofing, we’re always just a call away. Whether you’re dealing with a minor repair or considering a full replacement, we help you make the right call based on your roof’s age, material, and the scope of the damage.
Our experienced team performs comprehensive inspections on all types of roofs—including asphalt shingles and metal—looking beyond surface-level wear to identify hidden issues like attic leaks. With a full picture of your roof’s condition, we provide tailored repair solutions designed to restore its strength, dependability, and give you lasting peace of mind.
Saint Clair Shores, MI sees a full spectrum of weather extremes—from blazing heat in the summer to harsh, icy winters. These seasonal swings put constant stress on your roof, particularly if it’s covered with standard materials like asphalt shingles.
Strong winds during storms can peel back or completely tear off shingles, leaving areas of your roof exposed and vulnerable to leaks. In the colder months, accumulated snow can cause ice dams—thick ridges of ice that prevent water from draining properly. As a result, water can back up beneath the roofing materials and seep into your home, leading to internal damage and mold growth.
What might appear to be minor wear and tear can quickly escalate into significant, costly problems if left untreated. Timely roof repairs help preserve your home’s structural integrity, extend your roof’s lifespan, and avoid the expense of a full replacement down the road. Taking early action is one of the smartest and most cost-effective steps you can take to safeguard your home.
Unsure whether it’s time to call a roofing professional? Some signs are obvious, while others are easier to overlook. Shingles that are missing, cracked, or curling often signal that your roof is showing its age. Water stains on interior ceilings or walls can indicate a hidden leak. A sagging roofline might suggest structural concerns, and finding granules in your gutters typically means your shingles are deteriorating.
You may also notice moss or algae growth, which could point to trapped moisture that can lead to long-term damage. If your asphalt shingle roof is approaching 20–25 years old, scheduling a professional inspection is a smart way to assess its condition and plan your next steps.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we provide detailed roof repair services customized to fit each homeowner’s unique needs. Our approach goes beyond simple patchwork—we’re committed to strengthening your roof’s integrity and delivering lasting protection for your home.
Our experienced team handles every aspect of your roof repair—from locating and sealing leaks to replacing damaged shingles and maintaining overall roof health. A small roof leak might not seem like a big deal—but if left alone, it can quickly turn into serious, costly damage. At Schoenherr Roofing, we know how important it is to catch and repair leaks early—before they grow into bigger problems.

Homes along the canals and the Nautical Mile catch wind and humidity off the water from more than one direction. That combination lifts shingles, loosens ridge caps, and keeps shaded slopes damp enough to grow moss, so canal-front roofs tend to show wear years before an inland roof of the same age. We check the wind-facing slopes, the ridge, and the flashing first on any waterfront inspection in the Shores.
Largely, yes. Most of St. Clair Shores was built out in a short postwar span, so those low-slope ranches and bungalows reach the end of their shingle life around the same time. We see the same worn shingles, cracked pipe boots, and failing valley flashing repeat street by street. When one home starts leaking, the neighbors are often not far behind.
Wind coming off the open lake with no windbreak lifts and tears shingles, loosens ridge caps, and works exposed flashing loose, especially on lakefront and canal homes. After a blow we look for missing or creased shingles, exposed nail heads, and lifted ridge, then make the roof watertight and repair the affected sections before water gets into the deck.
Yes. The lakefront and canal areas include larger and rebuilt homes with steeper, more complex rooflines and more flashing joints. Our crews are set up for that work, from safe access on a steeper slope to matching a repair into an existing higher-end roof so it seals and still looks right from the water.
We do. From our Sterling Heights office we cover all of St. Clair Shores, the Nautical Mile and canal neighborhoods along Jefferson as well as the inland ranch and bungalow subdivisions that make up most of the city. Wherever your home sits in the Shores, we can reach it quickly.
We’re about eight to nine miles away, roughly a twenty minute drive. On an active leak we focus on getting eyes on the roof fast, tarping or sealing it the same visit when needed, then scheduling the permanent repair. Being close is why Shores homeowners don’t sit and wait while lake weather keeps pushing water in.

Schoenherr Roofing just finished replacing our roof and we can honestly say the crew did a Great job!! It started with the estimate guy Dave Schafer who took a video on top of our roof and inside our attic, next Chad the project manager came out to go over project and sent us pictures throughput their work to show the progress! Didn’t expect that and was very pleased we could see what they were doing! Plus they covered ALL our landscaping, and we had a lot, as well as a Koi pond. Everything was protected. Took them 1 full day and by noon the next all was cleaned up, very efficient and done. Dave then came back to show us the before and after video to make sure we were satisfied. We were extremely satisfied! All I can say is quality is hard to find these days and following through on the quote without asking for more money was a blessing when your only on Social Security. From our hearts, THANK YOU❣️Posted on Google![]()

From start to finish was nothing but a positive experience. Ben started our journey with helping with insurance and answering numerous phone calls and text from me. He was my initial point of contact and did an amazing job. Then Noah stepped in when everything was set up. He was prompt about coming out before the roofing job and explained everything that would happen. Noah definitely put my mind at ease. He was on point the day the job started and was prompt about checking the roof and gutters upon completion. The job went like clock work with Hecto and his crew. In one day he had my new roof on and my yard and driveway totally cleaned up. Ben and Noah did an amazing job and Schoenherr roofing definitely has quality employees working for them. I would highly recommended this company 100%. I love my new roof thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Schoenherr Roofing did a complete roof replacement on our house: 2,800 s.f. Colonial, 39 “squares,” in Troy, which was finished, on time, in 1.5 days. From the materials delivery company, to the project manager’s (PM) pre-job contacts, to the on-site workers, everyone was friendly, helpful, and easy to deal with. Although the noise WAS horrific, we knew it would be!! The finished roof looks awesome. The PM did a post-job inspection the next day to address any remaining nails on the ground (not many), and picked up excess materials not used. We are extremely satisfied with Schoenherr Roofing and would highly recommend them for a total roof replacement!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
