Allenton sits about ten to eleven miles east of our Romeo headquarters at 102 W St Clair Street, out in the farm country of Berlin Township in St. Clair County. It’s a genuinely rural community, the kind most metro roofers won’t drive to, and we make the trip without pushing Allenton to the back of the schedule. A leak damages a roof just as fast out here as it does anywhere else.
On the older farmhouses and rural homes that fill Allenton, water can chase its way through original framing before it ever shows on a ceiling. Getting a technician on the roof quickly is what keeps a minor repair from becoming a soaked ceiling, and being headquartered nearby in Romeo is why we can still get out to Allenton promptly.
Allenton is a small unincorporated community in Berlin Township, sitting near the crossroads of Almont and Capac Roads in western St. Clair County. Its roots go back to the 1840s, when an innkeeper named Kerkimer Smith ran a stagecoach line through to Detroit, and the community later took the Allen family name. Surrounded by the open farmland and the Belle River watershed of Berlin Township, it’s a quiet, low-density farming area where homes sit on large lots well apart from one another.
That rural character shapes the roofs. Allenton is mostly older farmhouses and rural homes on open and wooded lots, mixed with newer country builds, rather than the uniform subdivisions of the suburbs. From century-old farmhouses to modern country homes, it’s exactly the kind of spread-out rural housing where getting a roofer to make the trip is half the battle.
The open farm-country setting is the main story here. Farmhouses and homes on open lots take wind with no windbreak to slow it down, so we find lifted shingles and loosened ridge caps after storms, and a single storm can mark several properties across the open country at once. Wooded rural lots collect falling limbs and leaf litter in their valleys and grow moss on shaded north slopes.
The older farmhouses bring the classic problems of aging homes. Worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing, and tired valley metal are where the real leaks start, and on a century-old farmhouse water can travel through old framing before you ever see a stain. Michigan’s freeze-thaw winters pry at loose joints and drive ice dams onto the eaves of older, under-insulated homes. Most of it is repairable when caught early, and a quick inspection after a big storm is the cheapest insurance an Allenton homeowner can buy.
Out in a rural community like Allenton, a contractor’s name gets around fast, because neighbors talk and there aren’t many roofers who make the trip. We’d rather earn that word-of-mouth by fixing the roof correctly than lose it by cutting a corner on a farmhouse well out in the country. That’s the same standard we’ve held from our Romeo base since 1995, however far the drive.
Dealing with roofing issues is never enjoyable, but keeping your roof in good shape is key to safeguarding your home. At Schoenherr Roofing, we’re just a call away. The first step in figuring out whether you need a simple repair or a full replacement is evaluating the damage. Elements such as your roof’s material, age, and the seriousness of the problem all influence the solution.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we thoroughly inspect all roof types, from asphalt shingles to metal roofs, identifying visible damage like missing shingles and hidden concerns such as attic leaks. Our expert team provides tailored solutions to restore your roof’s integrity.
Allenton, MI, experiences a wide range of seasonal weather—from scorching summers to icy, snow-filled winters—that can wear down your roof, particularly if it’s made of popular materials like asphalt shingles.
High winds can rip or loosen shingles, leaving your roof vulnerable to leaks. In winter, heavy snowfall often leads to ice dams, which block proper drainage and may result in water seeping into your home.
Ignoring early signs of damage can result in even costlier repairs or even a full roof replacement. Addressing issues promptly helps protect your home and saves you money in the long run.
How do you know when it’s time to call a professional roofer? Some warning signs are obvious, while others are harder to detect. Missing, cracked, or curling shingles can indicate wear and tear. Water stains on ceilings or walls may signal a leak. A sagging roofline suggests structural issues, while granules from asphalt shingles accumulating in gutters point to aging materials. Visible moss or algae growth can also be a sign of trapped moisture. If your asphalt shingle roof is nearing 20-25 years old, a professional inspection can help determine how much life it has left.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we provide detailed roof repair services customized to fit each homeowner’s unique needs. Our approach goes beyond simple patchwork—we’re committed to strengthening your roof’s integrity and delivering lasting protection for your home.
Our dedicated team handles everything from identifying and repairing leaks to replacing damaged shingles and maintaining your roof’s overall condition. Using top-quality Atlas or Owens Corning materials and industry-best techniques, we deliver reliable, lasting results.

Yes. Allenton is about ten to eleven miles from our Romeo headquarters, out in rural St. Clair County, and we cover it. A lot of Allenton homeowners get told their roof has to wait because they’re out in farm country. We schedule Allenton repairs with the same urgency as closer work, because water damages a roof just as fast out here as anywhere else.
Yes. Allenton and the surrounding Berlin Township are mostly older farmhouses and rural homes on large open and wooded lots, and that’s much of what we repair out here. Those properties take more wind on exposed roofs and more tree debris on shaded ones, and our crews are equipped to access and repair roofs in rural conditions from our nearby Romeo base.
On older Allenton farmhouses, leaks usually trace back to worn chimney flashing, aging step flashing, and tired valley metal rather than the open field of shingles, and decades of re-roofing can hide brittle underlayment underneath. We trace the leak to the real entry point and repair it rather than patching the stain below it, so the fix actually stops the water.
Homes on open farmland around Allenton take wind with no windbreak to slow it down, which lifts and tears shingles, loosens ridge caps, and can mark several open-country properties in a single storm. After a storm we look for missing and creased shingles, exposed nail heads, and damaged flashing, then make the roof watertight and repair the affected sections before water gets into the deck.
They can. Wooded rural lots around Allenton collect falling limbs and leaf litter in their valleys and keep shaded north slopes damp enough to grow moss that loosens shingle edges. We clear and repair that tree and moss damage and can point out canopy worth trimming back from the roof before it causes the next leak.
Our Romeo headquarters is about ten to eleven miles from Allenton, so even though it’s out in rural St. Clair County we can still get there promptly. On an active leak we prioritize getting the roof watertight quickly, then schedule the permanent repair. The extra miles change our routing, not our commitment to getting Allenton homeowners taken care of.

Schoenherr Roofing just finished replacing our roof and we can honestly say the crew did a Great job!! It started with the estimate guy Dave Schafer who took a video on top of our roof and inside our attic, next Chad the project manager came out to go over project and sent us pictures throughput their work to show the progress! Didn’t expect that and was very pleased we could see what they were doing! Plus they covered ALL our landscaping, and we had a lot, as well as a Koi pond. Everything was protected. Took them 1 full day and by noon the next all was cleaned up, very efficient and done. Dave then came back to show us the before and after video to make sure we were satisfied. We were extremely satisfied! All I can say is quality is hard to find these days and following through on the quote without asking for more money was a blessing when your only on Social Security. From our hearts, THANK YOU❣️Posted on Google![]()

From start to finish was nothing but a positive experience. Ben started our journey with helping with insurance and answering numerous phone calls and text from me. He was my initial point of contact and did an amazing job. Then Noah stepped in when everything was set up. He was prompt about coming out before the roofing job and explained everything that would happen. Noah definitely put my mind at ease. He was on point the day the job started and was prompt about checking the roof and gutters upon completion. The job went like clock work with Hecto and his crew. In one day he had my new roof on and my yard and driveway totally cleaned up. Ben and Noah did an amazing job and Schoenherr roofing definitely has quality employees working for them. I would highly recommended this company 100%. I love my new roof thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
