Aging, damaged, or outdated windows might not seem like a serious issue at first, but they can quickly turn into bigger problems. Higher energy bills, reduced home value, and leaks that damage walls and floors are just a few of the troubles older windows can cause. They can also leave your home feeling less comfortable and noticeably noisier than it should be.
The good news? There’s a simple solution. Get in touch with the window replacement specialists at Schoenherr Roofing and let us upgrade your home with modern, attractive, energy-efficient windows. You’ll enjoy a more comfortable living space right away and stronger curb appeal when it’s time to sell.
If you want to enjoy all the benefits new windows have to offer, without dealing with the issues that come from poor installation or low-quality materials, you need to work with true window replacement professionals, like the team at Schoenherr Roofing.
Franklin is served from our Novi office at 43000 W 9 Mile Rd, about thirteen miles east and roughly a twenty-minute drive. On a home with the character Franklin's have, working with a nearby crew that understands older houses matters. We come out for a free estimate without a long wait, keep the install on schedule, and return easily for any follow-up. You get a local team experienced with historic and estate homes, not a call center handing your house to whoever is free.
Franklin is unlike anywhere else in suburban Detroit. Founded in the 1820s and bypassed by the railroad that made neighboring towns grow, it settled into a slower pace and kept its nineteenth-century character intact. The downtown became Michigan's very first historic district, and the village is known for its brick streets, its tree-lined roads, and a collection of original-condition homes unusual anywhere this close to the city. Around the old village center sit large, estate-style homes on sprawling wooded lots.
That blend of preserved period homes and big estates gives Franklin a distinctive window story. A nineteenth-century farmhouse and a large custom estate were built with very different glass, and both reward careful, well-matched work. Homes here change hands rarely and hold their value, and owners tend to think in terms of decades, not quick fixes, when they invest in the house.
The older homes here often keep their original wood windows, with the tall proportions and divided-lite patterns of their era. They are worth preserving, and replacing them well means matching the style and sightlines so the house keeps the character that makes Franklin what it is. In a village this proud of its architecture, that care is the whole point.
The larger estate homes bring a different challenge: many windows, often oversized, spread across a big house on a shaded, wooded lot. A project that size benefits from a plan that keeps the look consistent across every elevation while finally sealing and insulating the way modern glass does. On a large older home, the difference in comfort and heating cost after a full replacement can be substantial, since so much glass is doing the work. Whether the home is a preserved village house or a sprawling estate, the standard is the same. Matching the right window to the right home is the difference between a change no one notices and one that quietly diminishes a house that took a century to earn its character.
Every job starts with an honest measure and a plan built around the house, not a stock box forced into a historic opening.
Because our Novi office is a short drive west, our crews cover south Oakland County regularly and know how to treat homes like these. In a community that guards its character as closely as Franklin does, sensitive work is the best reference there is, and that is reason enough to hold our standards high inside your home.
In fact, there are several reasons to choose Schoenherr Roofing for all your window replacement needs, including:
Unfortunately, many homeowners miss the warning signs that their existing windows aren’t performing the way they should. Keep an eye out for the following issues so you’ll know when it’s time to replace your windows.
If you feel cold air in the winter or warm air in the summer when you’re standing near your windows, it’s usually a sign the seals are starting to fail or the insulation isn’t doing its job properly.
Old, inefficient windows make your heating and cooling system work harder than it should, which often results in higher monthly energy bills.
Moisture trapped between the panes is often a sign of a failed seal, which can greatly reduce the window’s ability to properly insulate your home.
Windows that stick, jam, or won’t stay open often point to warped frames, worn-out hardware, or underlying structural issues that make replacement the smarter option.
Cracked or rotting window frames can allow moisture inside, weaken your home’s structure, and lead to costly repairs if the problem isn’t addressed.
If outside noise passes easily through your windows, they may be outdated or have only a single pane of glass that offers very little sound insulation.
Too much UV light coming through aging windows can cause interior furnishings, flooring, and finishes to fade and wear over time.
Water stains, bubbling paint, or damp drywall near windows can indicate failing seals or improper installation.
Wanting to save money on window installation or replacement is completely understandable. Still, many homeowners learn the hard way that going with the cheapest option often leads to bigger issues down the road. Instead of enjoying energy-efficient, attractive windows, they end up dealing with sticking windows, ongoing drafts, and moisture getting into places it shouldn’t.
That’s not something you have to worry about with Schoenherr Roofing. We provide expert window installation and replacement services and use only high-quality windows built to deliver the comfort, performance, and efficiency your home deserves. Contact us today to schedule your free estimate and find out how to get the best long-term value from your window investment.
Most homeowners see clear benefits when they upgrade their home’s windows. But Franklin homeowners often see even greater advantages, thanks to Michigan’s unique mix of environmental and regional factors. In fact, there are six reasons homeowners in The Great Lakes State should always choose premium windows, including:
Franklin homes deal with freezing winters and hot, humid summers. High-quality windows help keep indoor temperatures consistent year-round by reducing heat loss in the winter and limiting heat gain during the summer.
Along with keeping indoor temperatures more stable, sealed, energy-efficient windows with insulated glass reduce the strain on your HVAC system. That added efficiency can help Franklin homeowners lower energy costs throughout the year.
Snow, ice, heavy rain, and other forms of precipitation are common in Franklin. Well-built windows that are properly sealed and designed to drain correctly help keep water out, reducing the risk of rot, mold growth, and moisture damage.
Franklin constant freeze-thaw cycles put a lot of stress on window frames and seals, which can lead to costly issues over time. Durable, professionally installed windows are built to handle that expansion and contraction and stand up to long-term weather exposure.
When you’re focused on protecting your home’s value or getting ready to sell in Franklin‘s competitive market, every advantage counts. New, modern windows enhance your home’s appearance and can help boost its resale value.
We take pride in providing solutions that are tailored to each homeowner and treating every project as the unique job it is. At the same time, over the last 30 years, we’ve developed a proven, consistent process that serves our customers well and helps ensure they receive the high-quality window solutions they deserve.
Unlike some window installation companies, the team at Schoenherr Roofing knows your home is truly one of a kind. We don’t rely on cookie-cutter solutions. Instead, we take the time to talk through your needs, evaluate your home, and recommend custom window installation or replacement options that make sense for your specific situation.

The team at Schoenherr Roofing can handle all your window installation and replacement needs, whether for a residential or commercial property. Some of the window services we most commonly provide include:
We offer professional window installation for new construction, home additions, and remodeling projects. Every window is properly flashed, insulated, and sealed to deliver long-lasting performance, strong energy efficiency, and a finished look that complements your home.
Our window replacement services involve removing old, damaged, or underperforming windows and installing modern, energy-efficient replacements. The result is fewer drafts, reduced condensation, less outside noise, and a home that feels more comfortable overall.
Pocket window replacement is a cost-effective alternative to full replacement. It keeps the existing frame in place and replaces only the window sash, which reduces disruption while improving insulation, appearance, and overall performance.
Schoenherr Roofing installs premium ENERGY STAR–rated windows designed to significantly reduce heat transfer. This can result in lower monthly energy bills, improved indoor comfort throughout the year, and potential eligibility for federal tax rebates.
Our vinyl window installation services give homeowners the chance to enjoy durable, low-maintenance windows that resist warping, cracking, and moisture damage over time, while still offering a wide selection of window styles and color options.
A popular option that allows both the top and bottom sashes to open independently, double-hung window replacement offers added versatility, improves your home’s ventilation, and makes window cleaning and maintenance much easier.
Single- and double-hung windows aren’t the right fit for every space, which is why we also install smooth-sliding windows and crank-operated casement windows. These options offer wide, unobstructed views, excellent airflow, and secure locking systems that enhance both comfort and safety.
For homeowners looking to bring in more natural light, add usable space, and boost curb appeal, custom bay and bow windows can be an excellent solution. These window styles work especially well in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms.
Window sealing and weatherproofing offer a faster, more affordable way to stop drafts, reduce moisture intrusion, and protect your home from water damage. At the same time, these services improve indoor comfort and help keep heating and cooling costs under control.
A popular option for Franklin homeowners, properly installed storm windows help reduce drafts, improve window energy efficiency, and provide added protection against wind, rain, and snow, while also helping extend the life of your primary windows.
Not every aging or damaged window needs to be replaced, which is why we offer a complete range of window repair services. Our approach centers on replacing specific components—such as frames, sashes, hardware, and seals—to restore performance and comfort without unnecessary replacement.
Still have questions about window installation or replacement in Franklin? We’ve rounded up a few of the most common questions our customers have and answered them below.
Franklin is served from our Novi office at 43000 W 9 Mile Rd, about thirteen miles east, roughly a twenty-minute drive. We schedule free estimates without a long wait and can return easily for any follow-up on your home.
Yes. Franklin’s period homes are the heart of its character, and we match the style, proportions, and grille patterns of the originals so the house still reads as the historic home it is, while gaining a tight, modern, insulated seal.
With careful planning. A big estate home carries a lot of glass, often in oversized units, so we measure each opening, plan the sequence, and keep the style consistent across every elevation. The result is a large project that looks cohesive and performs, done without rushing the details.
Yes. We regularly work on older and character homes, and matching a replacement to a period house is exactly the kind of careful work these homes call for. Getting the proportions and sightlines right is what keeps the change from ever looking out of place.
They can make a real difference. A large older home with dated windows loses a great deal of heat through all that glass, so upgrading to sealed, insulated units improves comfort throughout the house and takes a meaningful bite out of the heating bill.
Yes. On a big home, we can phase the work, starting with the rooms or elevations that matter most or are failing worst, and complete the rest over time. It lets you tackle a large project at a pace that suits you.

I’d give more stars, but 5 seems to be the limit. From the time I first called to schedule an inspection of the roof until the work was completed and I was paying the bill, Schoenherr was nothing but professional. Everyone went out of their way to make the entire job as easy on us as it could be. They handled everything perfectly, promptly and professionally. The project manager Josh, was on top of everything that was happening and kept us updated throughout the entire process. As soon as there was anything to report he was in contact. I really appreciated the voluminous amount of photos I received. (Before, during and after) The place was looking cleaner when they were done than it was before they started. If only every contractor would be as easy to work with.Posted on Google![]()

Schoenherr Roofing did a complete roof replacement on our house: 2,800 s.f. Colonial, 39 “squares,” in Troy, which was finished, on time, in 1.5 days. From the materials delivery company, to the project manager’s (PM) pre-job contacts, to the on-site workers, everyone was friendly, helpful, and easy to deal with. Although the noise WAS horrific, we knew it would be!! The finished roof looks awesome. The PM did a post-job inspection the next day to address any remaining nails on the ground (not many), and picked up excess materials not used. We are extremely satisfied with Schoenherr Roofing and would highly recommend them for a total roof replacement!Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
