Aging, damaged, or outdated windows might not seem like a big issue at first, but they can quickly lead to larger problems. Higher energy bills, reduced home value, and leaks that damage walls and floors are just a few of the headaches older windows can create. They can also leave your home feeling less comfortable and noticeably noisier than it should be.
The good news? There’s a simple fix. Reach out to the window replacement specialists at Schoenherr Roofing and let us upgrade your home with modern, attractive, energy-efficient windows. You’ll notice a more comfortable living space right away and enjoy stronger curb appeal when it’s time to sell.
If you want to enjoy all the benefits new windows have to offer, without dealing with the issues that come from poor installation or low-quality materials, you need to work with true window replacement professionals, like the team at Schoenherr Roofing.
Clarkston is served from our Rochester office at 425 Walnut Blvd, about fifteen miles west and roughly a twenty-five minute drive. On a home with the history many Clarkston houses have, working with a nearby crew that respects an older home matters. We come out for a free estimate without a long wait, keep the install on schedule, and return easily for any follow-up. You get a local team that understands historic and character homes, not a call center handing your house to whoever is free.
The City of the Village of Clarkston is small and proud of it. Founded in the 1830s by the Clark family, its walkable downtown along Main Street is a designated National Register historic district, lined with Greek Revival and Victorian homes and buildings that date back nearly two centuries. The old millpond and Depot Park anchor the village, and just beyond it spread the lakes, woods, and rolling hills of Independence Township, from Deer Lake to the Pine Knob area. It is a place people move to for its small-town character and its natural setting, and they tend to guard both closely.
That blend of nineteenth-century village homes, lakefront houses, and wooded estates gives Clarkston a distinctive window story. A historic Main Street home and a modern lake house were built with very different glass, and both reward careful, well-matched work.
The older homes around the village often keep their original wood windows, with the tall proportions and divided-lite patterns of their era. They are worth preserving, and replacing them well means matching the style and sightlines so the house keeps the character that makes the historic district special, while finally sealing tight against a Michigan winter.
Out on the lakes and wooded lots of Independence Township, the challenge shifts. Lakefront homes live with humidity that finds any failed seal, and their big water-facing windows are where the most heat and glare come and go, so properly sealed, low-emissivity glass matters there. Homes on open, wooded lots face wind and weather that test every worn sash. Whatever the setting, we install tight, insulated units that hold up, and where a home calls for it we can weigh options that respect its historic look. Getting the proportions and grille patterns right is what keeps a replacement from ever looking out of place on an older home.
Every job starts with an honest measure and a plan built around the house, not a stock box forced into an old opening.
Because our Rochester office is a reasonable drive east, our crews cover this part of north Oakland County regularly and know how to treat an older home. In a community that guards its historic character closely, sensitive work is the best reference there is, and that is reason enough to hold our standards high inside your home.
In fact, there are several reasons to choose Schoenherr Roofing for all your window replacement needs, including:
Unfortunately, many homeowners miss the warning signs that their existing windows aren’t performing the way they should. Keep an eye out for the following issues so you’ll know when it’s time to replace your windows.
If you feel cold air in the winter or warm air in the summer when you’re standing near your windows, it’s usually a sign the seals are beginning to fail or the insulation isn’t doing its job properly.
Old, inefficient windows force your heating and cooling system to work harder than necessary, which often leads to higher monthly energy bills.
Moisture trapped between the panes is often a sign of a failed seal, which can greatly reduce the window’s ability to properly insulate your home.
Windows that stick, jam, or won’t stay open often point to warped frames, worn-out hardware, or underlying structural issues that make replacement the smarter option.
Cracked or rotting window frames can allow moisture to get inside, weaken your home’s structure, and lead to costly repairs if the problem isn’t addressed.
If outside noise passes easily through your windows, they may be outdated or have only a single pane of glass that offers very little sound insulation.
Too much UV light coming through aging windows can cause interior furnishings, flooring, and finishes to fade and wear down over time.
Water stains, bubbling paint, or damp drywall near windows can indicate failing seals or improper installation.
Wanting to save money on window installation or replacement is completely understandable. Still, many homeowners find out the hard way that choosing the cheapest option often leads to bigger problems later on. Instead of enjoying energy-efficient, attractive windows, they end up dealing with sticking windows, ongoing drafts, and moisture getting into places it shouldn’t.
That’s not something you need to worry about with Schoenherr Roofing. We offer expert window installation and replacement services and work only with high-quality windows built to deliver the comfort, performance, and efficiency your home deserves. Contact us today to schedule your free estimate and learn how to get the best long-term value from your window investment.
Most homeowners see clear benefits when they upgrade their home’s windows. But Clarkston homeowners often gain even more, thanks to Michigan’s unique mix of environmental and regional factors. In fact, there are six reasons homeowners in The Great Lakes State should always choose premium windows, including:
Clarkston homes deal with freezing winters and hot, humid summers. High-quality windows help keep indoor temperatures consistent year-round by reducing heat loss in the winter and limiting heat gain during the summer.
Along with keeping indoor temperatures more stable, sealed, energy-efficient windows with insulated glass reduce the strain on your HVAC system. That added efficiency can help Clarkston homeowners lower energy costs throughout the year.
Snow, ice, heavy rain, and other forms of precipitation are all common in Clarkston. Well-built windows that are properly sealed and designed to drain correctly help keep water out, preventing issues like rot, mold growth, and moisture damage.
Clarkston constant freeze-thaw cycles put a lot of stress on window frames and seals, which can lead to costly issues over time. Durable, professionally installed windows are built to handle that expansion and contraction and stand up to long-term weather exposure.
When you’re focused on protecting your home’s value or preparing to sell in Clarkston’s competitive market, every advantage matters. New, modern windows improve your home’s appearance and can help increase its resale value.
We take pride in providing solutions that are tailored to each homeowner and treating every project as the unique job it is. At the same time, over the last 30 years, we’ve developed a proven, consistent process that serves our customers well and helps ensure they receive the high-quality window solutions they deserve.
Unlike some window installation companies, the team at Schoenherr Roofing knows your home is truly one of a kind. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter solutions. Instead, we take the time to talk through your needs, evaluate your home, and recommend custom window installation or replacement options that make sense for your specific situation.

The team at Schoenherr Roofing can handle all your window installation and replacement needs, whether for a residential or commercial property. Some of the window services we most commonly provide include:
We provide professional window installation for new construction, home additions, and remodeling projects. Each window is properly flashed, insulated, and sealed to ensure long-lasting performance, strong energy efficiency, and a finished look that complements your home.
Our window replacement services include removing old, damaged, or underperforming windows and installing modern, energy-efficient replacements. The result is fewer drafts, reduced condensation, less outside noise, and a home that feels more comfortable overall.
Pocket window replacement is a cost-effective alternative to full replacement. It keeps the existing frame in place and replaces only the window sash, which reduces disruption while improving insulation, appearance, and overall performance.
Schoenherr Roofing installs premium ENERGY STAR–rated windows designed to significantly reduce heat transfer. This can result in lower monthly energy bills, improved indoor comfort throughout the year, and potential eligibility for federal tax rebates.
Our vinyl window installation services give homeowners the chance to enjoy durable, low-maintenance windows that resist warping, cracking, and moisture damage over time, while still offering a wide selection of window styles and color options.
A popular option that allows both the top and bottom sashes to open independently, double-hung window replacement offers added versatility, improves your home’s ventilation, and makes window cleaning and maintenance much easier.
Single- and double-hung windows aren’t the right fit for every space, which is why we also install smooth-sliding windows and crank-operated casement windows. These options offer wide, unobstructed views, excellent airflow, and secure locking systems that enhance both comfort and safety.
For homeowners looking to bring in more natural light, add usable space, and boost curb appeal, custom bay and bow windows can be an excellent solution. These window styles work especially well in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms.
Window sealing and weatherproofing offer a faster, more affordable way to stop drafts, reduce moisture intrusion, and protect your home from water damage. At the same time, these services improve indoor comfort and help keep heating and cooling costs under control.
A popular option for Clarkston homeowners, properly installed storm windows help reduce drafts, improve window energy efficiency, and provide added protection against wind, rain, and snow, while also helping extend the life of your primary windows.
Not every aging or damaged window needs to be replaced, which is why we offer a full range of window repair services. Our approach focuses on replacing specific components—such as frames, sashes, hardware, and seals—to restore performance and comfort without unnecessary replacement.
Still have questions about window installation or replacement in Clarkston? We’ve rounded up a few of the most common questions our customers have and answered them below.
Clarkston is served from our Rochester office at 425 Walnut Blvd, about fifteen miles west, roughly a twenty-five minute drive. We schedule free estimates without a long wait and can return easily for any follow-up.
Yes. The homes in the National Register district often carry original wood windows with the tall proportions and divided-lite patterns of their era, and we match those so the house keeps its historic character while finally sealing tight and insulating properly.
For a lake home we install sealed, moisture-resistant units, often larger picture or casement windows to frame the view, with low-emissivity glass to cut glare and heat loss. Steady humidity off the lake makes a proper seal especially important on the water.
Yes. Homes on open and wooded lots take wind that finds every worn seal and loose sash. Tight, correctly installed windows with modern weatherstripping stop the drafts and the rattling, and hold heat far better through a Michigan winter.
It depends on their condition. If the sash and frame are sound we can sometimes repair components, but once the wood has rotted or the window no longer seals, replacement is the better long-term call. On a historic home we weigh keeping the character against real performance and give you a straight answer.
They can make a real difference. Older homes lose a lot of heat through single-pane or worn windows, so upgrading to sealed, insulated units improves comfort and usually takes a meaningful bite out of the winter heating bill.

Alex and the Schoenherr Roofing crew did a really good job on our new roof, which is somewhat complicated with several gables, a portion that is flat and another area with a 2-12 pitch. We weren't able to be present during the work but Project Manager Dan routinely communicated by sending texts and photos. The 350 sq ft flat roof received a custom rebuild, using the EPDM system which created new low slopes with insulating board underneath. The crew did a great job installing a new skylite and installing the Deck-Air vent system for the house's low slopes. The rows of shingles are straight as are the ridge vents and Deck-Air vents. The dumpster was brought in as a large 4 wheeled trailer, so there was no effect on our asphalt, and it was removed promptly. Alex and his crew replaced rotten OSB and 1 x 6 roof boards, and improved a chimney flashing and cricket which has been a problem for years. They were careful of landscaping. Most of the work was done in about 2 days. The new roof looks great and we can certainly recommend Schoenherr Roofing.Posted on Google![]()

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
