Almont sits up in southeastern Lapeer County, about twelve miles north of our Romeo headquarters at 102 W St Clair St, roughly a twenty-minute drive straight up M-53. For a farm village this far out, having the crew based that close is a real advantage. Many window companies treat Almont as too remote to service. We do not, because we are already nearby. A free estimate is easy to schedule, the crew arrives when promised, and any follow-up is a short trip rather than a special one.
Almont was first settled in 1828 and grew up at the crossing of what are now M-53 and St. Clair Road, a village serving the farmland all around it. Its heritage is well preserved: the West Saint Clair Street Historic District, listed on the National Register, lines the street with sixteen nineteenth-century homes in Greek Revival, Italianate, Gothic Revival, Queen Anne, and other period styles. Beyond the village spread the open farms and larger parcels of Almont Township, with the Polly Ann Trail running through. People come out this way for the trail, the historic downtown, and the open country, and they tend to guard that character closely.
That history sits right in the windows. The historic homes carry the tall proportions and divided-lite patterns of their era, and the farmhouses out on the township's land were built to the same single-pane standard. A century or more later, those windows are working hard just to keep the weather out.
In the historic district and the older village homes, preservation is the priority. Replacing the original wood windows well means matching the period style and sightlines so a home keeps the character that makes the district special, while finally sealing tight against a Michigan winter. The wood in these windows tends to stick, leak, and rot at the sill after this long, so the comfort gain from a proper replacement is immediate.
Out on the farmland, the problem is drafts and cost. An older farmhouse on open land is genuinely hard to heat, and single-pane windows lose a great deal of that heat. Rather than adding storm windows over failing units, modern insulated double glass is usually the better long-term value, cutting the drafts and taking a real bite out of the winter bill. If the whole house is more than the budget allows at once, we can phase the work and start where it matters most. Getting the proportions and grille patterns right is what keeps a replacement from ever looking out of place on an older home.
Every job starts with an honest measure and a plan built around the home and its era.
Because Romeo is just down M-53, our crews are through this part of Lapeer County regularly and know how to treat an older home. In a small community that guards its historic character, sensitive work is the best reference there is, and that keeps our standards high, however far north the address.
In fact, there are several reasons to choose Schoenherr Roofing for all your window replacement needs, including:
Unfortunately, many homeowners overlook the warning signs that their existing windows aren’t performing the way they should. Watch for the following issues so you’ll know when it’s time to replace your windows.
If you notice cold air in the winter or warm air in the summer when you’re standing near your windows, it’s a sign the seals may be failing or the insulation isn’t doing its job.
Old, inefficient windows make your heating and cooling system work overtime, which often results in higher monthly energy bills.
Moisture trapped between the panes is usually a sign of a broken seal, and that can seriously reduce the window’s ability to insulate your home.
Windows that stick, jam, or won’t stay open often have warped frames, worn out hardware, or structural issues that warrant replacement.
Cracked or rotting window frames can let moisture inside, weaken your home’s structure, and lead to costly repairs if left unaddressed.
If outside noise comes through your windows with ease, they may be outdated or only have a single pane of glass that doesn’t offer much sound insulation.
Too much UV light coming through aging windows can cause interior furnishings, flooring, and finishes to fade and wear over time.
Water stains, bubbling paint, or damp drywall near windows can indicate failing seals or improper installation.
Trying to save money on window installation or replacement is completely understandable. Still, many homeowners learn the hard way that going with the cheapest option rarely works out over time. Instead of enjoying energy-efficient, good-looking windows, they end up dealing with problems like windows that stick, constant drafts, and moisture getting where it shouldn’t.
That’s not something you have to worry about with Schoenherr Roofing. We provide expert window installation and replacement services and only work with high-quality windows built to deliver the comfort, performance, and efficiency your home deserves. Contact us today to schedule your free estimate and find out how to get the best value from your window investment.
Most homeowners will enjoy several benefits when they upgrade their home’s windows. But Almont homeowners stand to benefit more than others, thanks to our state’s combination of environmental and cultural factors. In fact, there are six reasons homeowners in The Great Lakes State should always opt for premium windows, including:
Almont homes deal with freezing winters and hot, humid summers. High-quality windows help keep indoor temperatures steady year-round by reducing heat loss during winter and limiting heat gain in the summer.
In addition to keeping indoor temperatures more consistent, sealed, energy-efficient windows with insulated glass ease the workload on your HVAC system. That improved efficiency can help Almont homeowners reduce energy costs throughout the year.
Snow, ice, heavy rain, and other forms of precipitation are all common in Almont. Well-built windows that are properly sealed and designed to drain correctly help keep water out, preventing issues like rot, mold growth, and moisture damage.
Almont’s constant freeze-thaw cycles put a lot of stress on window frames and seals, which can lead to costly issues over time. Durable, professionally installed windows are built to handle that expansion and contraction and stand up to long-term weather exposure.
When you’re trying to protect your home’s value or prepare to sell in Almont’s competitive market, every advantage matters. New, modern windows enhance your home’s appearance and can help boost its resale value.
We take pride in providing solutions that are tailored to each homeowner and treating every project as the unique job it is. At the same time, over the last 30 years, we’ve developed a proven, consistent process that serves our customers well and helps ensure they receive the high-quality window solutions they deserve.
Unlike some window installation companies, the team at Schoenherr Roofing understands that your home is truly one of a kind. We don’t push cookie-cutter solutions. Instead, we take the time to talk through your needs, evaluate your home, and recommend custom window installation or replacement options that make sense for your specific situation.

The professionals at Schoenherr Roofing can take care of all your window installation and replacement needs, whether for a home or a business. Some of the window services we provide most often include:
We offer professional window installation for new construction, home additions, and remodeling projects. Every window is properly flashed, insulated, and sealed to deliver long-lasting performance, strong energy efficiency, and a finished look that complements your home.
Our window replacement services involve removing old, damaged, or underperforming windows and installing modern, energy-efficient replacements. The result is fewer drafts, reduced condensation, less outside noise, and a home that feels more comfortable all around.
Pocket window replacement is a cost-effective alternative to full replacement. It keeps the existing frame in place and replaces only the window sash, which minimizes disruption while improving insulation, appearance, and overall functionality.
Schoenherr Roofing installs premium ENERGY STAR–rated windows that are built to significantly reduce heat transfer. This can lead to lower monthly energy bills, better indoor comfort year-round, and potential eligibility for federal tax rebates.
Our vinyl window installation services give homeowners the chance to enjoy durable, low-maintenance windows that’ll resist warping, cracking, and moisture damage over time, while also providing plenty of options with respect to the window style and color.
A popular option that allows both the top and bottom sashes to open independently, double-hung window replacement provides versatility, improves your home’s ventilation, and makes both the cleaning and maintenance of your windows much easier.
Single- and double-hung windows aren’t the right fit for every space, which is why we also install smooth-sliding windows and crank-operated casement windows. These styles provide wide, unobstructed views, excellent airflow, and secure locking systems that add to both comfort and safety.
For homeowners who want to bring in more natural light, add usable space, and boost curb appeal, custom bay and bow windows can be a great solution. These window styles work especially well in living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms.
Window sealing and weatherproofing provide a quicker, more affordable way to eliminate drafts, reduce moisture intrusion, and protect your home from water damage. At the same time, they improve indoor comfort and help keep heating and cooling costs in check.
A popular choice among Almont homeowners, properly installed storm windows help to reduce drafts, improve your window’s energy efficiency, and provide more defense against wind, rain, and snow, while also helping extend the life of your primary windows.
Not every aging or damaged window needs to be replaced, which is why we offer a full range of window repair services. Our approach focuses on selective component replacement—such as frames, sashes, hardware, and seals—to restore performance and comfort without unnecessary replacement.
Still have questions about window installation or replacement in Almont? We’ve rounded up a few of the most common questions our customers have and answered them below.
Yes. Almont is only about twelve miles north of our Romeo headquarters, roughly a twenty-minute drive up M-53. Many companies treat it as too remote, but we are close by, so scheduling an estimate and returning if needed is no trouble.
Yes. The homes in the West Saint Clair Street district carry distinctive nineteenth-century styling, and we match the period proportions and sightlines so a home keeps the character that makes the district special, while finally sealing tight and insulating properly.
The lasting fix is replacing the old windows with sealed, insulated units. On an exposed farmhouse, single-pane glass and worn sashes leak a great deal of heat, and no amount of patching changes that for long. Modern double-glazed windows with good weatherstripping stop the drafts and hold the warmth in.
In most cases, replacing them is the better long-term value. Storm windows help a little, but they add a layer to maintain and still leave the failing original in place. Modern insulated double-pane units seal and perform far better, and on an older home they usually pay back faster in comfort and heating cost.
Yes. We can phase the project, starting with the coldest rooms or the most damaged windows and finishing the rest on your timeline. It lets you make the biggest improvement first and spread the cost out.
It varies with the house, but the savings on an older, drafty home are often significant, since so much heat escapes through single-pane and worn windows. Sealing the home with tight, insulated units eases the load on the furnace and usually shows up clearly on the winter bills

Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time, which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning for work over 6 feet. The roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally.Posted on Angie's List![]()

Absolutely thrilled with the work done by Schoenherr Roofing! I had been struggling with a leaking roof for a while, and after several failed attempts by other contractors, I finally found someone who not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it with precision and professionalism. The issue turned out to be the chimney area, and instead of just patching things up, Caleb took the time to build a cricket around the chimney to divert water and prevent future leaks. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and the work was completed efficiently without any mess or disruption to my daily routine. What really stood out was their clear communication and dedication to making sure everything was done right. They explained the entire process, answered all my questions, and took care to ensure that the repair would provide a long-lasting solution. Since the repair, I’ve had no further issues, even during heavy rainstorms. I can finally rest easy knowing my roof is in great shape! I highly recommend Schoenherr Roofing for anyone in need of roofing services—they are skilled, reliable, and genuinely care about doing the job right. Thank you Caleb for saving my home from further damage!Posted on Home Advisor![]()

Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof Schoenherr worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project in a very timely fashion. They came in $1090 under budget, having finished the whole job within one work day and three hours. They provided photos of the roof halfway through the project and at completion ? I would have appreciated a few 'before' photos, too. They provided a group text so that everyone involved could communicate and stay looped in. My only other quibble is that the finance person always neglected to cc my wife on emails, even though the home-improvement loan is in her name. Finally, after wrapping up the project, Schoenherr put everything in both yards back in place and cleaned the site really well. Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more for quality service and execution. Sometimes, it's not even that much more!Posted on Home Advisor![]()
