Living in South Lyon, you know just how fast Michigan’s weather can change, and how rough it can be on your home’s exterior. If you’re considering new siding, it’s important to work with a team that truly understands local conditions. You need seasoned pros who can help you choose the right materials for year-round protection.
Siding isn’t just about looks—it’s your home’s armor against Michigan’s toughest weather. From hot, muggy summers to bitter cold winters, along with wind, rain, and rapid temperature swings, your siding has to be tough.
At Schoenherr Roofing, we know what your home is up against. That’s why we install siding built to handle it all—heat, cold, and everything in between. It’s durable, reliable, and made to keep your home looking great for years to come.
South Lyon sits about nine miles west of our Novi office, a quick run out to the I-96 and US-23 crossroads. Being close means we can get out fast for an estimate, hold the start date we promise, and swing back quickly if anything needs a look after the job. Every exterior we install carries a 50-year warranty, backed by more than 30 years and over 6,000 Michigan homes.
South Lyon has a real backstory for a town its size. Settled in 1832 as Thompson's Corners and later named for state legislator Lucius Lyon, it grew up as a farming and railroad hub, with several lines meeting in town and a heritage the community still celebrates each year on Depot Day. Incorporated as a city in 1930, it has grown steadily ever since, more than tripling in the postwar decades and continuing to add residents today.
That growth shows in the housing. While a small historic core sits downtown along Pontiac Trail, the great majority of South Lyon homes were built from the 1980s onward, with many going up after 2000 in newer subdivisions. It's a family town with strong schools, and most of its homes are still young enough that their original builder siding is only now reaching the age where it needs attention.
On a newer home, siding usually doesn't fail dramatically. It fades, chalks, and gets brittle over fifteen or twenty years, and the smart move is to plan ahead before it starts letting water behind the walls. We help South Lyon homeowners get in front of that, replacing tired builder-grade siding with better vinyl or James Hardie fiber cement that holds up far longer and lifts the look of the whole home. Catching it early also means we're working with sound walls underneath, which keeps the project simpler and the cost down.
We also handle the whole look. If your trim and shutters are dated, new siding and trim can refresh the entire exterior, and we match the siding on your attached garage and front porch so it all reads as one home. Because South Lyon is full of growing families, if you're planning an addition down the road, we'll help you choose siding that's easy to match when the time comes. And since summer storms roll through this open western corner of Oakland County, if wind or hail has dinged up your siding, we'll assess whether a repair or a full replacement makes more sense.
We find where water is getting in, replace the failed siding, reflash the trouble spots, and finish the trim so your home looks sharp and stays protected through every Michigan season.
Being just up the road in Novi, we're in South Lyon often, and we treat every home like it belongs to a neighbor, because in a town this tight-knit, it might as well. We show up when we say we will, protect your property and landscaping, keep the site clean, and stand behind every wall we install for the long haul.
Sick of non-stop maintenance, high energy bills, or just want to refresh your home’s look? New siding could be the fix.
It’s not just about looks; quality siding improves insulation, protects against Michigan’s wild weather, and can lower your energy costs. With durable materials and solid protection, your home stays comfortable year-round and keeps looking its best.

About nine miles, a quick run west to the I-96 and US-23 crossroads. That closeness means fast estimates, start dates we can keep, and quick follow-up if you need us after the job. We’re in South Lyon regularly and know its newer subdivisions well.
On a newer home, siding tends to fade, chalk, and get brittle gradually over fifteen to twenty years rather than failing all at once. The smart approach is to keep an eye on the sun-facing and weather-facing walls, rinse the siding occasionally, and plan to replace it before it starts letting water behind the walls. We can assess where your home stands and help you plan ahead rather than react to a problem.
It depends on the extent. Scattered damage on an otherwise sound wall can sometimes be repaired, but widespread cracking, holes, or dents, especially on older builder-grade siding, usually make full replacement the better long-term value. We’ll inspect the damage, tell you honestly which makes more sense, and if it’s storm-related, help you understand your options before you decide.
Definitely. Siding, trim, and shutters all work together, so updating them as a package makes the biggest difference. We can replace the siding and refresh the trim, and swap or remove dated shutters, choosing colors and profiles that bring the whole exterior up to date. It’s one of the most dramatic transformations you can make to a newer home that’s just looking tired.
Yes, always. On most South Lyon homes the attached garage and porch are part of the same elevation, so we side them to match the house for one seamless look. Matching material, color, and trim across the whole front is what makes a re-side look finished rather than piecemeal.
That’s a smart thing to think about. We’ll help you choose a widely available siding line and color, and we can note exactly what was installed so a future addition can be matched cleanly. Where an exact match down the road is a concern, we can also talk through choices that age and weather predictably, so an addition blends in rather than standing out.
